The Rode Show: Harvard-Westlake Captures IMG National Classic Title

By Nathan Rode

BRADENTON, FL—With another well-rounded effort, Harvard-Westlake HS, CA, cruised to an 8-1 win over Roberson HS, NC, in the 2017 IMG National Classic Championship, marking the Wolverines’ second consecutive title at the event.

Harvard-Westlake opened the scoring in the first inning on a base hit from 2018 3B Loren Franck, who looks like a linebacker with his big, physical frame. In the second, they added two more when 2020 OF Pete Crow-Armstrong singled and then 2019 IF Michael Snyder was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. 2017 RHP Ben Geiger started on the mound and gave the Wolverines a solid outing—a common theme of their trip to the East Coast. Geiger pitched 4.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out three.
