HOUSTON, TX - With tons of rain rolling through Texas last week, tournament schedules changed. Fortunate for us, Memorial HS had a tarp, so we headed to Houston early Friday morning, leaving behind rain and 40 degree temps in Dallas. The weather in Houston could not have been more ideal, 80 degrees and sunny. But it was not just the weather that made for a great weekend. The level of competition in the Spring Branch ISD Tournament could summon any baseball fan to the yard. Here are some of the highlights from from Friday and Saturday’s games, including the top arms with video.

TOP COMMITTED ARMS

Nicco Cole, RHP, Southlake Carroll HS, 2018
Howard JC commit. The right-hander was on a mission Friday morning, pitching with intent and tempo. He works ultra-quick between pitches, pounding both sides of the plate with his fastball ranging from 85-89 mph, topping out once at 90. Cole works from a ¾ slot with a long, loose arm stroke and smooth delivery. Strong front side, stays on line and repeats his delivery with a long stride down the mound. He mowed through the Stratford lineup, eventually recording a perfect game. His slider has sharp, short, late bite at 76-78 mph with 10/4 shape. Can throw his changeup in any count with arm side fade, depth, and same arm speed at 74-78 mph. He was still touching 88 and 89 in his last inning of work.
