The Top Tier Roos held their 2020 summer tryouts this past weekend at Carrollwood Day School in Tampa, Florida. The tryout was a three-day event which featured a workout on day one, showcase on day two, and game play on day three. Prospects from the 2021-2024 classes were in attendance, looking for a spot in the Top Tier Roos program. Today, we will take a look at some 2023 and 2024 players to follow.

2023

Kodi Deskins (Clearwater Central Catholic, C)

Deskins has a lean, projectable frame at 5-foot-11, 155 pounds. Has plenty of room to fill out with present athleticism and quickness in his actions. Like the hit tool with a simple, smooth swing that works in good sequence. Above average bat speed. Consistent hard line drives, will drive the gaps and add some power when he fills out. Quickness in the hands translates to a smooth and efficient transfer behind the plate. Well above average pop times at 1.85-1.95 with accuracy on the bag. Arm strength is average but projects to improve, topping at 73 down to second.

Michael Graziano (Naples, OF)

Really like the potential in the athletic, lean 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame. Showed the athleticism with good numbers across the board. Ran a 6.71 sixty, threw 82 from the outfield, and had a top exit velocity of 86. Works the center of the field with easy bat speed. Starts tall and gets down into his load. Good level of stiffness in his movements at the plate creates a simple, efficient swing. Like the power potential with added strength.

Landen Maroudis (Calvary Christian, RHP/SS)

Love the development he’s shown and projects to continue. 6-foot-1, 155-pound frame. Up 7 mph on the mound since June, jumping from 75-77 to an easy 82-84 with more to come. Curveball sat 67-69. Athletic on the mound and at the plate. Offensively, he gets into a good power position with his load, has loose hands and a good bat path creating a lot of hard contact on a line and in the air. 91 top exit velocity.

Troy Reader (Berkeley Prep, C)

2018 Junior Future Games participant. Strong, athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds that has visibly gotten stronger. Has an above average skillset all around, with strength in the hands receiving, the top catcher arm velocity of the event at 79, and a lot of bat speed and offensive upside. Barrel ability is advanced and I like the power potential with more lift developing down the line. Hard line drives in gameplay, max exit velocity of 90, up from 81 at the Junior Future Games. Athletic with good flexibility and lateral movement behind the plate. 1.91-1.97 pop times. Heavy follow as he continues to develop.

Cristofer Walley (Citrus, LHP/OF)

Really like the two-way potential of Walley. He can really swing it from the left side. Strong frame with pull-side power. Small leg kick produces some rhythm in his stance. Showed athleticism around the bag at first with an above average glove. On the mound, shows feel for multiple pitches. Fastball sits 80-82 mph and adds an above average breaking ball at 66-67. Good control of both pitches and is a consistent strike thrower.

Landon O’Donnell (Lakeland Christian, 3B)

O’Donnell has a tall, projectable frame just like his brother at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds. The offensive toolset is there with above average bat speed and a whippy, line drive swing. Produced a top exit velo of 88 mph. Defensively, showed some athleticism at third with an above average arm. Really like the projectability.

2024

Anthony Gualemi (Undecided, OF/RHP)

Super long and projectable 2-way player. Right handed arm, left-handed bat with potential for both. On the mound he has a live, loose arm with good timing and up to 83. ¾ slot is tough to pick up and gets some arm side run. Uses hips well with good sequence. Curveball has a chance to be well above average and was between 63-65. A lot of velo to come when he fills out. Offensively, he still has to come into his swing, but there’s tools with athleticism in the box and power potential from the left side. Ran a 7.04 sixty with long strides that will improve with strength and body control. Exit velocities up to 89. A ton to like in this projectable 8th grader.

Cameron Mallo (Undecided, MIF)

A lot of natural athleticism in this 2019 Junior Future Games participant. Has some present strength in the lower half and a good frame to add size. Smooth actions in the infield with well above average quickness in the transfer, handles the backhand very well. Feet are active and soft. Arm was 74 across the infield with quick action. The right-handed bat has some present leverage and average bat speed. Simple load, good upward bat path. Like offensive upside as a solid on-base, gap to gap guy with added strength.
