Top Tier Roos Tryouts: Standouts

Rocco Iervasi
Florida Director of Operations/Area Scout

The Top Tier Roos held their 2020 Fall tryouts this past weekend in Tampa. Saturday featured hitting evaluations in the cage followed by light bullpens. Sunday featured defensive evaluations for all the players. There were many players who stood out from the 2022-2024 classes. Take a look.

2022

Zach Crawford, SS, JW Mitchell

I was very impressed with Crawford both offensively and defensively. Tall, lanky frame. Showed above average barrel awareness and a simple line drive approach that attacked the middle of the field. Looks the part defensively at short and the athleticism plays. Moves well with above average hands.

Miles Curley, MIF, Calvary Christian

Curley looks to have added some strength as he starts to fill out his frame. Stays quiet in his set up offensively and attacks the ball with an aggressive approach. Showed above average bat speed and consistently barreled up. Flashed power to the pull-side as well.

Ryan Gargett, C/RHP, Inspiration Academy

Really liked the overall upside of Gargett. Physical frame who showed some power potential in BP. Behind the plate, he showed quick footwork and an above average arm with accurate throws to the bag at 2nd. Showed ability as a two-way with a fastball up to 86 mph on the mound. Also flashed an above average slider.

Quentin Meadows, SS, Wharton

Meadows continues to show well offensively. Looks to have added some strength which will only help his hit tool. Tall setup with a quick whippy swing. Up-the-middle approach with the barrel awareness to produce consistent high exit velo’s.
