Trackman Standouts

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

Players across the country have been getting on the Trackman B1 unit with PBR state directors to see how their metrics stack up. The Hotlist has a few 2020s who stood out in sessions leading up to next week’s draft, including a hitter who also used the Blast Motion sensor during BP.

Will Klein, RHP, Eastern Illinois
As usual, Klein showed up and brought the heat, topping out at 96.9 mph with his super quick arm. He also brought his difference maker: a hard low-80s curveball with tight, quick, downer spin. The tilt on his curveball was very consistent and conducive to a true north/south breaker with depth and a little horizontal action. His fastball tilt of 12:45 helps produce an induced vertical break 20.3 inches, which is extreme ride. His curveball depth and fastball ride will likely play well off one another. With those being his two main pitches, Klein profiles more as a reliever than starter at the next level. With that said, he possesses present weapons in both and would likely benefit by using his heater up in the zone to get swings and misses over the barrel. This will be a great complement to the depth of his downer curveball, which is likely to get swings and misses below the barrel.
