Uncommitted 2023s To Follow This Summer

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

Even though some states are still finishing spring seasons, the summer circuit is underway. College coaches will be out in full force soon, working on their recruiting classes. The Hotlist returns to take a look at some uncommitted 2023s who should be followed closely.

Amari Allen, LHP/1B, Sherwood HS, MD
A physical two-way talent, Allen enjoyed a breakout year on both sides of the ball, leading the Warriors to a 4A state title. On the bump, the broad-shouldered, 6-foot-2 southpaw works out of a tough 3/4 slot with a quick, whippy arm action through his release. He has a full three-pitch arsenal that he throws for strikes in any count, starting with a fastball that sits in the upper 80s and ticks up fo 91-92 with tons of sink and arm-side run. The slider is sharp with tight 1/7 shape, consistently inducing swings and misses. He also mixes in a late-fading changeup that plays extremely well off his fastball and slider. His spring stats were eye opening, as he sported a 0.56 ERA and struck out 81 in 48 innings pitched, leading to a perfect 9-0 record. At the plate, he has a calm demeanor from the left side with explosion in his hands and lower half through contact. He creates consistent lift, showcasing the ability to leave the yard at any time to his pull side. The barrel stays through the zone with some whip, as he stays in his lower half well and shows consistent barrel awareness. He hit .516/.626/1.194 with 13 home runs and 47 RBIs.
