UPDATED AND EXPANDED OVERALL 2020 RANKINGS RELEASED:

Not yet half way through its high school experience, the Class of 2020 seems eager to hurry off to college, as more than half of the newly expanded Top 300 has verbally committed to universities across the country. This vicious pace of recruiting has forced recruiters to make earlier decisions, and while talks of change have heated up considerably, change will not happen without action.

Having said this, the elite talent that the 2020 class holds has quickly proven itself to be more than capable of backing up the early commitments. The PBR staff scoured the baseball landscape throughout the fall at events far and wide, giving us the ability to confidently expand the list to 300 players.

The Prep Baseball Report welcomed the state of Arizona to the family, during the fall, and 10 players (including four committed) enter the Top 300 from the always talented Grand Canyon State.

Of the updated and expanded Class of 2020 Top 300 Overall Rankings, 184 players have made verbal commitments, with many more committed players who just missed the cut. Miami continued to expand its class, which now sports 11 commitments while Vanderbilt holds the same. Louisville and Virginia each check in with nine commitments while Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana State and North Carolina hold seven each.

It is important to note that the PBR overall rankings only reflect the states that we intimately cover from our boots-on-the-ground scouting staff. The Top 300 Class of 2020 rankings is comprised of our current 36-state coverage area.

The top 20 players in the class are separated by such a small margin that any could easily—and may eventually—make their way into the top 10. However, RHP Victor Mederos (Coral Reef Senior HS, FL), a Miami recruit, holds onto the No. 1 spot as he continued to show the stuff necessary to be a possible No. 1 starter in the future. Mederos’ effortless 90-94 mph fastball is so easy out of his hand that it looks like there will be even more velocity coming from him in the future. His feel for two above average breaking pitches that could become plus in the future makes him one of the best arms in any amatuer class.

RHP/OF Nate Wohlgemuth (Owasso, OK) maintains his spot at No. 2. The durable, athletic, 5-foot-11, 200-pound right-hander has been up to 95, and that number appears to be on the rise. Wohlgemuth’s feel for a near-plus changeup and above average slider continue to make him one of the top players in the class.

OF Austin Hendrick (West Allegheny HS, PA) jumps up to the No. 3 spot as the top left-handed bat in the class. The ultra-athletic outfielder showcases strong wrists with whippy hands and a strong throwing arm on a proportionally strong frame. Hendrick recently gave a verbal commitment to Mississippi State.

SS/RHP Mac Horvath (Rochester Centruy HS, MN) checks in at No. 4 as one of the most electric athletes in the country, and LHP Liam Norris (Green Hope HS, NC) is the top left-handed pitcher in the class. He has been up to 92 and rounds out the top five.

OF/RHP Trejyn Fletcher (Trinity Pawling School, NY), a Vanderbilt recruit remains at No. 6. CIF/RHP Kellum Clark jumps up to No. 7 after standing out all fall with a professional approach from the left side. The physically imposing 6-foot-4, 221-pound Mississippi State recruit showcases advanced feel for the barrel with power projection to all fields while also exhibiting clean hands on the infield with a strong throwing arm. 

Projectable SS Tanner Witt (Episcopal HS, TX) checks in at No. 8 while Vanderbilt recruit, LHP Dax Fulton (Mustang HS, TX) is at No. 9.

Rounding out the top 10 is another fast riser in RHP/OF Alex Greene (Dematha HS, MD), a Virginia commit. A legit, two-way prospect, Greene’s athleticism stands out both on the mound and in the field. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder sat 87-91 in Jupiter with an electric arm that also produced vicious 77-79 slider. Though clearly one of the top pitchers in the class, Greene also shows the ability to handle the stick from the right side, and his long strides make him one of the more impressive athletes in the class, as well.

Some of the biggest risers in the update include many from the state of Florida. SS Michael Brooks’ (Park Vista HS, FL) athleticism and overall feel for the game helped him to an outstanding fall before committing to Mississippi State. OF Enrique Bradfield (American Heritage HS, FL), a recent Vanderbilt commit, has elite, game-changing speed to go along with a smooth, left-handed stroke. SS Sammy Infante (Pace HS, FL), a Miami recruit, has twitchy actions at shortstop and strong right-handed bat that already have him on the draft radar. Finally, 1B Gavin Casas (American Heritage HS, FL), a Vanderbilt recruit, unleashed horror on pitching all throughout the fall with his powerful left-handed swing.
