Updated 2015 Overall Player Rankings

By Sean Duncan
Executive Director

After a hectic three months that included the spring season, and regional and national summer events, we have updated the Class of 2015 overall player rankings to reflect the stark jumps made by many prospects in the Prep Baseball Report’s coverage area.

No 2015 prospect has made a more significant rise this summer than RHP Mike Nikorak (Stroudsburg HS, PA), a 6-foot-5, 205-pound Alabama recruit. Over the last few months, Nikorak has shown consistent 92-94 velocity, climbing as high as 96 on occasion. Nikorak, who’s arm works free and easily, also features a sharp breaking ball and looks as though he has only begun to scratch the surface of his potential. His performances this summer has catapulted him to the No. 1 spot in the Prep Baseball Report’s top 350 prospects.

Nikorak narrowly edges out RHP Ashe Russell (Cathedral HS, IN) and RHP Bryan Hoeing (Batesville HS, IN), a pair of Indiana right-handers who have been fixtures at the top of the rankings for the last two years. Russell, a Notre Dame commit, in fact, has been one of the most dominant right-handers in the country this spring and summer.

RHP Chandler Day (Watkins Memorial HS, OH), SS Charlie Donovan (Westmont HS, IL), INF John Aiello (Germantown Academy HS, PA), RHP Noah Burkholder (Crown Point HS, IN) and RHP Riley Thompson (Christian Academy HS, KY) all hold firm in the top 10 as well.

OF Nick Plummer (Brother Rice HS, MI) is the fastest-rising position player in the Midwest. The left-handed hitting athlete, who recently changed his commitment from Michigan to Kentucky, has turned heads this summer with his all-around play. LHP Kyle Ostrowski (Lincoln-Way North HS, IL) also moved into the top 10 after enjoying an incredible spring season, but has since tired this summer.

Outside the top 10, other big risers in the 2015 overall rankings include: RHP Liam Jenkins (Lincoln-Way North HS, IL), LHP Adam Wolf (Edison HS, OH), OF Brenden Spillane (Wheeling HS, IL), RHP Sean Hjelle (Mahtomedi HS, MN), LHP Brendon Little (Conestoga HS, PA), RHP Connor Lungwitz (Maize HS, KS), SS Daniel Little (Lexington Catholic HS, KY), LHP Dylan Cyphert (Cranberry HS, PA), RHP Cole Bellair (Lockport HS, IL), LHP Jordan Poore (Muncie Central HS, IN), LHP Bryan Hudson (Alton HS, IL), and LHP Triston Polley (Brownsburg HS, IN), to name a few.

Editor’s Note: The Prep Baseball Report’s overall rankings do not include recently added states Florida, Virginia, New York, Colorado and Tennessee. While we have seen several of the top players in those states at national events, our state scouting directors are still working on their comprehensive lists, and therefore would be premature – and less precise – if we included players from those states.
