Saturday saw an important WCAC matchup in Arlington as No. 3 St. John's College traveled to No. 6 Bishop O'Connell. Starting on the mound for St. John's was senior righty Quinn Allen (East Carolina) and on the mound for O'Connell was junior righty Jack O'Connor (Virginia).

St. John's scored quickly in the top of the first. Casey Gibbs (VCU) led the game off with a single to left, and two batters latter Justin Schiavone (James Madison) doubled to deep center, driving him in. Schiavone scored on a fielder's choice, giving the Cadets and early 2-0 lead.

The Cadets would add three more runs in the top of the fourth, with the big blow being a two-out, 2 RBI single to right by DM Jefferson (Notre Dame). Jefferson then stole second and third before scoring on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 5-0.

That was all St. John's would need, as Allen and Max Simpson (Towson) combined to throw a 2-hit shutout, hitting two batters and walking none while completely shutting down the Knights' offense.

For St. John's, Allen picked up the win going 5 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 5 K, 0 BB and going 1-5 with an RBI at the plate. Simpson picked up a save while going 4 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB while also going 3-4 with a 2B. Jefferson was 1-3 with 2 BBs, 2 RBIs, and 4 SBs.

For O'Connell, O'Connor picked up the loss going 4 IP, 5 R, 6 H, 5 K, and 3 BB. O'Connnor was also 1-4 at the plate. Nick Frazier went 4 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 2 K, 4 BB in relief. Bobby McDonough was 1-3 and also tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
