VA/MD State Games: 2024 OF Breakdown

In early November, over 140 players from Virginia, DC, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina descended on War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, Virginia to take part in the 2021 VA/MD State Games. We continue our detailed breakdown of the event with the 2024 outfielders.

 

Shawn Arneja OF / LHP / Freedom South Riding, VA / 2024

5-foot-8, 145-pound proportional athletic frame. Solid fluid at the plate, Arneja had an exit velocity of 84 mph. (65.2 mph bat speed average). (20.6 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced quiet stance with a smooth compact load, then used a short controlled stride. Bat speed was quick efficient, displayed a simple uphill swing plane and good extension on his balanced finish. Barreled up multiple balls with loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Solid in the outfield, his best throws to the infield topped out at 72 mph; has smooth in control feet, sure consistent hands, and a natural exchange. Laterally, movements were quick and fielded the ball out front. Showed consistent accuracy to the bag with a longer quick arm action and a ¾ slot. Recorded a time of 7.21 in the 60-yard dash. 

Maison Becker OF / RHP / Nansemond River, VA / 2024

6-foot-1, 160-pound long lanky frame. Athletic projectable in the box, Becker clocked an exit velocity of 86 mph. (70.4 mph bat speed average). (21.1 mph hand speed average). Began in an open tall stance with a quick load, then used a short controlled stride. Bat speed was efficient quick, displayed a short simple swing plane and high finish. During his round he produced loud contact and found lots of barrels. Gap to gap approach. Solid in the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 82 mph; had consistent hands, a clean exchange, and smooth footwork. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a high ¾ slot with a compact arm action. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.84.

Kyler Edwards OF / C / First Colonial , VA / 2024

5-foot-9, 150-pound lean athletic frame. Smooth confident in the box, Edwards had a max exit velocity of 76 mph. (59.9 mph bat speed average). (19.6 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall open stance with a controlled rhythmic load, then uses a small leg kick. Bat speed is quick efficient, shows a short loose swing plane and balanced high finish. In the round he found lots of barrels with loud contact. Up the middle approach. In the outfield, his best throw of the day was clocked at 71 mph; has sure consistent hands, fluid feet, and a clean exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were quick. Used a high ¾ slot and a longer arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the base. Recorded a 60 time of 7.13 at the event.

Andy Fronczek OF / LHP / Bishop O'Connell, VA / 2024

5-foot-10, 175-pound lean athletic frame. Confident in the box, the left-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 90 mph. (68.9 mph bat speed average). (20.2 mph hand speed average). Begins in a tall athletic stance with a rhythmic active load, then uses a leg kick. Had explosive bat speed, uphill swing plane and high finish. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Aggressive approach. Athletic in the outfield, his best throw of the day was clocked at 76 mph; has a quick clean exchange, athletic fluid feet, and sure consistent hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic twitchy. Had a short quick arm action and a ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the bag. Recorded a 60 time of 7.07 at the event.

Ryan Haney OF / 1B / Calvert Hall, MD / 2024

6-foot-2, 175-pound long athletic frame. Athletic projectable at the plate, Haney had a max exit velocity of 90 mph. (66.9 mph bat speed average). (20.9 mph hand speed average). Began in an athletic stance with a controlled rhythmic load, then used a controlled toe tap stride. Has a level upward swing plane, developing explosive bat speed and balanced good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Aggressive line drive approach. Smooth athletic in the outfield, his best throw of the day was clocked at 86 mph; had a clean fluid exchange, athletic footwork, and soft consistent hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Showed consistent accuracy to the base with a high ¾ slot and a longer quick arm action. Clocked a time of 7.14 in the 60-yard dash. 

Luke Harlow OF / RHP / Walsingham Academy , VA / 2024

. 5-foot-11, 175-pound athletic projectable frame. Athletic in the box, Harlow had an exit velocity of 91 mph. (73.1 mph bat speed average). (20.1 mph hand speed average). Begins in an open athletic stance with a quick compact load, then uses a short small leg kick. Bat speed is present raw, shows a short simple swing plane and high balanced finish. He found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Athletic his best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 85 mph; has a clean fluid exchange, sure consistent hands, and smooth athletic feet. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Showed consistent accuracy to the bag with an-over-the-top slot and a short consistent arm action. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.8.

Andrew Hart OF / LHP / Cape Henry, VA / 2024

5-foot-9, 145-pound lean athletic build. During batting practice, Hart had an exit velocity of 79 mph. (66.0 mph bat speed average). (21.1 mph hand speed average). Begins in an active narrow stance with an active load, then uses a leg kick. Has a short upward swing plane, present bat speed and high finish. Found some barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. In the outfield, his best throw of the day was clocked at 79 mph; has athletic consistent feet, sure consistent hands, and a quick fluid exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Showed consistent accuracy to the base with a high ¾ slot and a loose quick arm action. Showed his athleticism during the event with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.88.

Aden Judge OF / 2B / Nansemond River , VA / 2024

5-foot-10, 170-pound athletic projectable build. Athletic projectable during batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 80 mph. (60.2 mph bat speed average). (18.9 mph hand speed average). Began in a tall stance with a controlled active load, then used a controlled small leg kick. Has developing raw bat speed, short simple swing plane and level good extension on his finish. He found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Aggressive approach. Athletic in the outfield, his best throw of the day was clocked at 86 mph; had a quick clean exchange, consistent soft hands, and athletic footwork. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Used a high ¾ slot and a compact quick arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the bag. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.93.

Andrew Perks OF / WT Woodson, VA / 2024

6-foot-1, 160-pound lanky projectable build. In the box, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 86 mph. (63.2 mph bat speed average). (19.3 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced stance with a rhythmic controlled load, then uses a leg kick. Bat speed was efficient, had a short upward swing plane and high finish. He found some barrels with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. In the outfield, his throws to the bases were maxed out at 71 mph; had consistent hands, in control fluid footwork, and a clean exchange. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Used a short arm action with a high ¾ slot while showing decent accuracy to the bag. Displayed speed and athleticism at the event, recording a 60 time of 6.85. 

Jake Plainte LHP / OF / Good Counsel, MD / 2024

5-foot-11, 155-pound lean projectable build. Capable confident at the plate, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 89 mph. (69.4 mph bat speed average). (22.2 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall open stance with a smooth compact load, then uses a controlled small leg kick. Bat speed is efficient developing, displays a short simple swing plane and high finish. He found some barrels with loud contact. Up the middle approach. Projectable from the outfield, he showed the ability to throw at velocities up to 85 mph; showed a clean exchange, fluid in control feet, and sure consistent hands. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. While catching, showed consistent rhythmic feet, a fluid transfer, and sure hands. From a ¾ slot, showed some decent accuracy to the bag with a longer arm action.

 

Matthew Sabale OF / LHP / Grassfield, VA / 2024

5-foot-7, 135-pound lean frame. Confident during batting practice, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 80 mph. (62.7 mph bat speed average). (19.3 mph hand speed average). Started in a narrow balanced stance with a quick active load, then used a quick leg kick. Bat speed is quick, shows a short simple swing plane and balanced finish. Through the round he found some barrels with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. From the outfield, his best throws to the bases were registered at 76 mph; has a clean exchange, sure hands, and athletic feet. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a quick loose arm action and a ¾ slot. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.01.

Deiondre Seigla OF / 2B / Rustburg , VA / 2024

5-foot-9, 115-pound lean build. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 80 mph. (65.8 mph bat speed average). (22.5 mph hand speed average). Started in an athletic stance with a controlled compact load, then used a small leg kick. Bat speed was efficient, used a short swing plane and high front foot finish. Found some barrels in his round. Up the middle approach. In the outfield, his throws to the bases were maxed out at 76 mph; had in control footwork, consistent hands, and a clean exchange. Laterally, movements were quick and fielded the ball out front. Showed a high ¾ slot and a longer quick arm action with decent accuracy to the bag. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.42.

Sean Smith OF / 2B / James River (Midlothian), VA / 2024

5-foot-10, 150-pound solid athletic frame. In the box, Smith's best exit velocity was 75 mph. (61.1 mph bat speed average). (18.5 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced pre-loaded stance with a quick controlled load, then used a short small stride. Has a short simple swing plane, developing bat speed and balanced finish. Produced some loud contact and found some barrels. Gap to gap approach. In the outfield, his best throws to the infield topped out at 79 mph; shows in control feet, firm hands, and a natural exchange. Fielded the ball out front with raw movement laterally. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a compact quick arm action and an-over-the-top slot. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.6.

 

Brady Williams SS / OF / Currituck County, NC / 2024

5-foot-10, 150-pound lean projectable build. Solid during batting practice, the left-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 77 mph. (59.3 mph bat speed average). (18.3 mph hand speed average). Starts in a crouched athletic stance with a compact controlled load, then uses a controlled stride. Bat speed is quick efficient, exhibits a short simple swing plane and high balanced finish. Through the round he found lots of barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Smooth in the outfield, his best throw of the day was clocked at 81 mph; has athletic aggressive feet, consistent hands, and a natural fluid exchange. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a longer quick arm action with a high ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.76.
