The Ross Report - 4A/3A State Playoffs

Alex Ross
Area Scout - Washington

Last weekend we had the chance to take in the 4A/3A state playoffs that were being hosted at Funko Field in Everett, Washington. The schedule featured 4 semifinal games on Friday followed by 2 consolation games Saturday before back to back State Championship games.

Representing 3A was West Seattle, O'Dea, Lake Washington and eventual champ Lincoln

Battling it out for 4A was Puyallup, Tahoma, Sumner and champion Eastlake.

Area Scout Alex Ross breaks down some of the prospects that caught his eye across the 2 full days of action.

'23 LHP Bjorn Johnson (Lincoln/Auburn commit)

As one of the premier players in the state, the left-handed Johnson has carved through lineups leading to a 3A state championship. With a medium frame and athletic build, Bjorn utilizes his lower half well out of the windup and releases from a 3/4 slot with good arm speed. His main weapons are his fastball and changeup, both with the potential to be solid-average or better. Pitching more in the 88-90 range, he will get up to 92 but his fastball life is where his misses come from. When it’s working, his low 80’s change has hard tail that overpowers high school hitters. Johnson’s slider is mostly 78-81 with a slurve break but can get away from him at times. Due to his athleticism and present stuff, you can expect and uptick as he matures with consistency and polish. If everything clicks for Johnson, he projects to be a left-handed starter similar to Michigan’s Tommy Henry. If he ends up making it to Auburn, you can expect his name to come up often.
