- 9:00 Games -

The 8:45 game between the Sun Devils and the Outlaws was tightly contested early before slipping away from the Outlaws late. The Outlaws threatened in the first with the help of a two walks but Sun Devils starter Brett Dennis worked out of a jam and settled down nicely. Tristin Hamm was efficient in his relief effort and the Sun Devils pounded out 8 hits. 

- Prospect Notes - 

William Rollings (SS, Providence, 2023) reached on a single and stole two bases in his first AB. Rollings sports an athletic build and showed good instincts and savy on the bases.

Malachi Witherspoon (C, Duncan U. Fletcher, 2022) Athletic catchers build with upside. Was impressive behind the plate and collected two hits. Between inning pop times ranged from 2.09 - 2.21. He showed skilled block and recovery ability and a quick release. Swing was short with quick hands and an awareness of the barrel, multiple hard contact swings. 

Brett Dennis (RHP, Providence, 2023) athletic pitcher with a short arm stroke. Ball came out of the hand cleanly and jumped on hitters. Erratic with his command at times but worked around trouble spots with bulldog mentality. FB 72-74 t75 CB 61-63

Casey Crawford (LHP, Mallard Creek, 2023) Lengthy 6-3 frame with long limbs and huge hands. Whippy 3/4 arm slot with some angle. Command was erratic and he faced multiple hitters counts. Projectable frame will need some polish. 

Brooks Tarnowski (OF, Mallard Creek, 2023) lean 6-3 frame carried himself well. Comfortable in the box for multiple at bats, collecting a hit in his first trip to the plate. Also showed off some range and an efficient route in the OF. Athletic upside. 

- 11:15 Games -

Three 5 Star Carolina Pitchers combined for a no hitter against the East Coast Bombers in the 11:00 game highlighted by Will Summers 7 strike out performance. 5 Star pounded out 8 hits and exploded for 6 runs in the 5th inning to end it. Jeremy Clemmer walked in his only plate appearance for ECB. 

- Prospect Notes -

Will Summers (RHP, Davie, 2022) - durable frame with a strong lower half. Worked the fastball to both sides of the plate and elevated it when necessary. FB was clean out of the hand (75-79 t80) and he showed feel for a breaking ball at 64. 

Timothy Bumshed - Slender profile with room to finish out his development. Showed a controlled aggressive approach collecting two hits in his teams 6 run 5th inning. (A 2 RBI double and an RBI single) 

Hayden Friese -  picked up 3 RBIs with a controlled approach at the plate. Walked twice and showed a good understanding of the zone. Developing physicality and a lofted bat path could build on already existing gap to gap line drive power.

The Mud Dogs and Full Throttle exchanged blows early on before each team was able to settle in during the middle innings. Full Throttle broke the game open in the 5th when they scored 4 runs. The middle of the Full Throttle line up with Hollis, Youmans, Scott, and Johnson made it tough for the Mud Dogs to get through posting a combined 9 RBIs and 4 Runs. 

- Prospect Notes - 

Noah Hollis (SS, Benedictine, 2022) - wiry infielder with easy actions. Aggressive early in his first at bat and collected a hard line drive single on the first pitch he saw. Worked a count later in the game and collected another hit on a ball out of the zone with two strikes. Enough athletic ability to make the routine play as well as make plays at the edge of his range. 

Parker Youmans (SS, Southeast Bulloch, 2023) - simple approach at the plate with a medium stride and quiet head. Made hard contact in multiple at bats and played solid defense. Good bat to ball skills. medium profile with future development potential. 

Mason Mock (3B/RHP, Effingham County, 2023) -  Came on in relief and showed a competitive mentality and advanced make up. Primary pitcher or not the arm works and the delivery is repeatable. He is athletic enough to feel his pitches and make adjustments pitch to pitch.  Hats off to him for coming into the game and giving his team a chance to win on day one. 

Mud Dogs #77 - thick profile, solid approach at the plate, had multiple ABs with hard contact. Naturally level bat path produced positive attack angle. Raw Power present (drove ball deep to RF). Controlled approach and showed the ability to see location and understand the zone.  

 

- 1:30 Games -

These two power house teams did not disappoint on day 1. 5 Star starting pitcher Ryan White was outstanding as was South Charlotte Panthers starter Drew Lanzo. The panthers answered from being down in the late innings and came from behind to down 5 Star four to three. 

- Prospect Notes -

Specht - strong opposite field approach early, pulled a breaking ball later in the game for another hit. Hard contact to each side of the field, controlled approach in the box with an understanding of the zone. Athletic build with room for further development. 

Ryan White (LHP, Randleman, 2022) - compact athletic build with durable lower half. H3Q arm slot produced heavy FB at 72-75 to both sides of the plate. Breaking ball with developing bite at 62 was confident to throw it in any count. Easily repeated his delivery and consistent with the hand speed  and arm slot on a 66 mph CH.  

Drew Lanzo (LHP, Hickory Grove Christian, 2022) - Medium build, will have the ability to add strength as he matures. Easy delivery with sub maximal effort was repeated throughout his outing. Threw a CG mixing 2 pitches consistently and flashing a few CH. FB showed wiggle to the arm side at times 74-75, breaking ball was used effectively with 1/7 shape at 61-62 mph. CH was used as a 3rd pitch. 

Garrett Michel (1B, East Lincoln, 2022) - 6 foot, 170 lb frame handled himself well around the bag early on, rangy defender with smooth actions. Picked up two hits with a simple approach at the plate. Young player with upside, left game due to injury late.

The offenses were on display in this one, more so than the score would indicate. It seemed like both sides traded their share of hard hit balls that resulted in outs. Brayden Horton, Ryan Flury, and Vence Fattore helped pace the Bombers offense.  

- Prospect Notes -

Luke Colvin (C, Scott County, 2021) - Strong catchers build (6-2, 190lbs) with square shoulders and solid profile. Showed a solid defensive tool with good catch and throw skill. Natural loft in the bat bath and good lag to the barrel. Could see an uptick in power as he develops. 

Vince Fattore (OF, William Penn Charter, 2022) - well built outfielder with a mixed bag of tools including a solid run tool and above avg raw power. Controlled set up at the plate before unleashing a powerful swing with gap to gap tendencies. 

Alex Ruiz (SS, McCaskey, 2022) - Thick lower half and broad square shoulders. Plays at every bit of his listed 5 foot 8, 155lb frame. Fringe avg arm strength from SS with good actions. Profile and athleticism suggest he could move to 2nd or 3rd if needed. 

 

- 3:45 Games -

The Panthers responded each time the Bombers scored, leading to a back and forth game through the middle innings. Panthers pitchers scattered 5 hits and the offense pushed across 5 runs in the 6th inning. Garrett Michel tripled to add to an already solid day and David Sessoms was strong in relief.

- Prospect Notes - 

David Sessoms (OF/RHP, East Rutherford, 2022) - 6 foot 2, 170 lb wiry frame with long limbs. Short arm action to a H3Q release point, FB showed natural cutting tendencies at 76-78 mph. CB 66-67 with loose rotation and 10/4 shape. 

Braylen Hayes (OF, Uwharrie Charter Academy, 2022) - picked up two hits, both solid contact. Used the whole field collecting one hit to RF and another to LF. Naturally lofted bat path and stays behind the baseball.

Ellis Chang (C, Porter Gaud, 2022) - 5 foot 9 155lb, frame showed quick hands on an RBI double to RF. Potential to polish up  the tools and trend up as he matures.

Canes Wearing jumped out to an early lead behind two 6 run innings. Anthony Vereen propelled the offense early on with a double to the wall. Weston Hickerson picked up two hits in a losing effort for the Warhawks. 

- Prospect Notes - 

Anthony Vereen (OF, West Brunswick, 2022) - Lean athlete in a compact frame. Twitchy actions and good bat to ball skills. Picking up two hits driving a double to the wall deep in LF and adding a single in his next AB. 

Kenan Bowman (SS, Charlotte Christian, 2023) - Solid defensive infielder with smooth actions. Ranged deep in the 6 hole to make a nice play and carry a throw to the bag at first. Above avg arm strength at present. Put together several quality ABs on the night also.

- 6:00 Games -

In a tightly contested game ECB were able to were able to hold onto a lead after scoring the go ahead run in the top of the 6th. Both teams received quality pitching performances and timely hitting was the name of the game. 

- Prospect Notes - 

Aryan Patel (SS, Hanahan, 2022) - lean INF with quick twitch actions. Solid defensive player with smooth movements and good body control. Picked up two hits and also came in to get the save. FB 69-70. 

Walker Taylor (1B, 2022) - 5-9, 160 lb medium build, doubled and drove in two runs.

Jace McQuillan - LHH doubled to the wall after singling earlier in the game. Physical player at 5-11 165lbs, body will sustain additional player development.

The Megastars offense got off to a hot start scoring 4 runs in the first two innings. This would prove to be all the offense they would need as the pitching staff would hold TPA to just 2 runs. Brandon Davis highlighted the scoring early on with a double. 

- Prospect Notes - 

Brandon Davis (SS, RJ Reynolds, 2022) - doubled in the first inning and collected two hits in the game. Quality defender with abilities to make plays at the edges of his range.  Profile has some upside and there are multiple tools that will translate as he develops further.

Isaiah Mack (3B, William Hough, 2022) - 6 foot 1, 170lb athlete with an imposing physical presence. High waist and good athletic actions give him a solid foundation and projectable skillset. Will need to polish some advanced skills in order to reach the ceiling.

- Prospect Notes - 

Ryan Clarke (RHP, Community School of Davidson, 2023) - RHP with a 3Q to H3Q arm slot. Clean arm action with full circle on the backside. FB 75-78 with occasional cutting action when thrown to the glove side. Slurvy breaking ball was thrown with a loose break at 69-70. Competed on the mound, controlled the running game.

Jack Lopez (SS, Cox Mill, 2022) - slight frame, slender throughout. Showed some quick twitch capabilities at times. + runner and good lateral quickness. Short arm stroke with avg. to sightly above arm strength. Served a pitch to RF with good barrel control. 

Jack McGowan (1B, Cox Mill, 2022) - large frame, every bit of the 6-3, 210 listed. Avg athleticism, sloped shoulders. Advanced hit tool with pop. Showed the ability to handle off speed and keep the head quiet and hands back. Singled to RF and doubled deep into the LCF gap. Above avg power present with additional power surge possible. 

Brady Halstead (RHP, Metrolina, 2022) - Lean frame with good present build. H3Q arm slot, landed closed of his line and generated some angle. FB 69-73 with occasional cut. Mixed CB at 57-59 with 11/5 shape and then showed a 64 mph CH later in the game. 

Evan Pratt (1B/RF, Myers Park, 2022) - Medium frame with solid tool set. Battled at the plate, high energy. Muscled the barrel through the zone with good pop especially to the pullside.

Christian Miller (SS/RHP, South Gwinnett, 2022) - compact frame, with a high waist. Singled in the first inning to drive in the Future Stars 2nd run. Came into the game later to pitch and was erratic with command at times working the ball into the strike zone. 

Blayse Leonard (SS, Middle Creek, 2023) small/medium profile with good energy and competitive make up. Picked up two hits and scored two runs on the night.
