Future Games Quick Hitters: Team Carolina Position Players

The 2022 PBR Future Games saw over 700 of the top uncommitted players from across the country descend on LakePoint in Emerson, GA for 4 days of action.  Team Carolina was made up of uncommitted 2024 and 2025 prospects, repping North and South Carolina.  Day 1 was a pro-style workout for position players.  Days 2 - 4 saw Team Carolina take on Team Louisiana, Team Nevada, and Team Missouri.  Over the 3 games, Team Carolina went 2-1 and caught a ton of eyes from the close to 400 college coaches and scouts in attendance.



Below we take a look at the Position Players from South Carolina that impressed while repping Team Carolina.

Chone James, 2024, C/INF

5-11 165 pound wiry athletic frame with lots of room to add on.  Athletic balanced stance with good rhythm.  Has a smooth swing with a quick bat.  Solid line drive gap to gap approach while not trying to do too much.  Defensively, shows big time catch and throw skills from behind the plate.  High end receiver with soft hands, a quick transfer, quick/athletic footwork, and good arm strength with accuracy.     


Rafael Soto Jr, 2024, INF

5-8 170 pound frame with present strength and good athleticism and more strength to come.  Switch hitter with a simple balanced setup.  Uses a toe tap to load up and has a flat path through the ball for a line drive approach with hard contact.  In the infield really stands out as a premium defender.  Shows the ability to play all over but has enough arm strength to stick at shortstop.  Silky smooth actions and footwork makes playing defense look easy.  Ability to make all the throws from different arm slots as well.  


CJ Oxendine, 2025, C/INF

6-3 175 lean athletic frame with lots of projection left.  This young player has an extremely high ceiling.  In the batters box has a balanced upright setup with a controlled, smooth leg lift to a good balance hitting position.  Shows good bat speed through the ball with good extension.  This talented catcher shows the ability to catch at a high level with advanced action behind the plate.  Very athletic footwork with quick, clean exchanges and shows good arm strength.      


Asher Goss, 2024, OF/RHP

5-11 175 pound athletic frame with present strength and room at add on.  Battled a hamstring injury all week but was still able to perform well throughout the week.  Hits from an open taller stance with some good hand rhythm.  Shows a short swing with good extension through the ball.  Aggressive approach looking to do damage on each swing.  Creates good leverage in swing with good power potential.   


Braden Mauro, 2024, INF

6-2 170 pound long lean frame with lots of room to add strength.  Smooth swing lefty that hits from a balanced upright stance with a small leg lift and stride to balance.  Slight uphill swing with good extension through the ball.  Some pull pop in swing with more power to come as he grains strength.  Defensively showed the ability and athleticism to play all over the infield.  Showed good action, soft hands, and clean footwork with the ability to throw from different slots.    


Andrew Palmer, 2025, INF

6-2 190 pound strong frame with room to grow and plenty of present strength.  This right handed hitter hits from an athletic upright stance with bend in his legs.  Shows power potential to all fields with explosive bat speed.  Big time power potential in the bat as he continues to mature.  Launched a big home run in game with an exit veol of 97 mph at a distance of 372 feet.  Developing defender at but shows promise at 1B with his footwork around the bag.


Landon Penfield, 2024, INF

6-1 190 pound strong frame with present strength and room to add on.  Hitter!!! This lefty shows the high end ability to just get hits.  A slight open stance with good rhythm and weight back.  Uses a toe tap to get loaded and gets to a great hitting position.  Shows a short quick swing with extension through the ball.  Has a great approach with hitting to all fields with power in the bat.  Defensively shows good athleticism and can play around the infield.  Projects as a corner guy with good hands and footwork, while showing a short arm action with accuracy on throws. 

 

Sean Rouse, 2024, OF

6-1 210 pound very strong physical frame with athleticism.  Hits from a wider base that is slightly open and has a lower larger stride.  Shows off big time power and bat speed in swing.  High end exit velo up to 100 mph.  Has a good flat path through the ball while going a really good job of staying on plane with the ball.  Does not get cheated on swings while looking to do damage with each swing.  In the outfield is showing a developing skill of tracking down flyballs.  Has good speed and shows the ability to play the corners well.
