Metts & Dutch Fork Contain the Lexington Offense

Lexington – 3                    Dutch Fork – 7

Game 2 of the 5A Region 5 three game series saw Lexington travel to Dutch Fork.  On Monday Lexington won game one 13-1.  Game 2 would see a lot of energy from both dugouts, but two big innings from the Dutch Fork offense would seal the contest.

In the top of the 1st, 2021 INF/RHP Jay Metts set the tone, filling the zone up for the Silver Foxes and recording three quick outs.  Dutch Fork would run with that energy.  Will Taylor walked to leadoff the game.  Consecutive two out singles from Cooper French and Collin Shealy would score Taylor.  Landon Kahl doubled to center scoring French and courtesy runner Kevin Samonsky, giving the home squad a quick 3-0 lead.

Metts continued to roll on the mound, facing the minimum in 4 of the 1st six innings and only facing 4 hitters in the other 2 halves.  For the game, Metts punched 5, walked 2 and only surrendered 4 hits, 3 of which came in the 7th.  He threw 80 pitches, 50 for strikes with a strike percentage of 63%.

Dutch Fork added three more in the bottom of the 6th to take a 7-1 lead into the 7th.  Lexington came alive a little with Ryan Toll leading off with a triple to right, followed by a 1 out double to left center from Blake Knight.  A single from Bennett Robinson would make it 7-3, but Metts would induce a soft lineout and a strikeout to end the game.

Game three of the series is scheduled for Friday at 5:30pm in Lexington.
