NC/SC Border Battle: Quick Hitters - SC Pitchers

PBR of North Carolina and South Carolina came together on Tuesday June 21, 2022 to run the NC/SC Border Battle at Mariam Hayes Stadium on the campus of UNC Charlotte.  The event featured 100 of the top players in the 2023, 2024, and 2025 classes representing each state.

The day started with the position player workout.  Players were able to go through Switft Athletic testing, live BP, and then a defensive workout.  Following the morning session, three games featured players from each state facing off in controlled scrimmages with pitchers throwing live to hitters.

Quick Hitters - Pitchers

Ben Brash, RHP, 2023

6-4 210 pound physical frame with present strength and room to add on.  Simple delivery with a medium leg kick.  Level, medium arm swing to a low-3/4 slot.  Solid arm speed.  Fastball peaked at 86.5 with sinking action to the pitch, while showing the ability to move the FB in and out.  Slider is short with some depth, up to 78.1, max spin at 2500rpm.  Change up showed good sinking and fading action to it down in the zone. 


Jacob McGovern, LHP, 2023

Lean strong projectable frame at 6-2 195.  Left hander with a slow controlled delivery with a higher leg lift.  Has a medium arm swing from an over the top arm action with a 6.1 avg. release height.  Ran fastball up to 85.8 with an avg spin at 2280 rpm.  Curveball has a big 12/6 break with lots of depth out of the same window as FB, up to 69.1 mph and a max spin on CB at 2357 rpm.  


Jacob Cogdell, RHP, 2023

Athletic build at 6-0 180 pounds with room to grow.  Slow tempo delivery with a smaller leg lift.  Throws with a short compact arm action from a high ¾ slot.  Ran his fastball up to 84.4 mph with some sinking action to it with an avg, spin at 1960 rpm.  Breaking ball had late breaking action to it with an avg spin at 2232 rpm.  Good feel for a change up down in the zone with some sink and fade to it. 


AJ Cammarota, LHP/1B, 2024

Large physical frame at 6-4 212 pounds with present strength and room to add on.  This left hander has a smooth tempo delivery from a high ¾ slot.  Showed a good loose arm action with the ability to throw 3 pitches for strikes.  Fastball showed a good late run to it with some sink up to 81.9 with an avg. spin at 1836 rpm.  Curveball good tight break at a 11/5 action up to 69 mph while spinning it at an avg. of 1921 rpm.  Chang up has run and sink to the glove side down in the zone with good tilt.  


Bryson Graves, RHP/OF, 2023

Athletic strong frame at 6-0 180 pounds with present strength.  Quick tempo delivery with quick arm speed from a high ¾ arm slot.  Fastball has good life to it with run and sink down in the zone.  FB up to 85.2 mph with an avg. spin at 2093 rpm.  Breaking ball has good shape at a 2/8 break with a good late break with an avg. spin at 2118 rpm while running it up to 74.8 mph.    


Cole Greer, RHP, 2024 

5-10 185 pound strong frame with present strength and room to grow.  Controlled tempo delivery with a medium leg lift throwing from an over the top arm action with an avg. release height of 6 feet.  Fastball has good downhill action to it making it tough to square up while running it up to 87.4 mph with an avg.  spin at 2201 rpm.  Curveball with lots of depth to it from that over the top slot, same window as FB.  Avg spin on CB is 2374 rpm while up to 70.5 mph.  Change up has good sinking and fading action with the ability to throw it down in the zone.      


William Spang, RHP, 2023

Lean athletic frame at 6-2 176 pounds with lots of projection left.  Controlled pace delivery with a high leg lift and a coil to get hips loaded.  Longer arm swing from a low ¾ slot with good arm speed.  Fastball shows good movement with sinking and run action to it while running it up to 87.3 mph and an avg. 2206 rpm.  Curveball showed to be a plus pitch with good big time spin along depth.  CB had a max spin 2988 rpm at a max velo of 75.9.  Big time makings of a plus out pitch.   


Drew Hayes, RHP, 2025

Projectable athletic frame at 6-0 72 pounds with plenty of room to add strength.  Uptempo athletic delivery with a high leg lift with a short arm action from high ¾ slot.  Shows a fast arm generating good velocity, and running his fastball up to 85.6 mph with good run and sink to it with an avg. spin at 1897 rpms.  Slider has a bigger break with good depth.  Avg, spin at 2006 rpm while running it up to 72.4 mph.  Change up has good action to it with run and sink to the arm side and down.   


Matt Murray, RHP, 2024

Athletic twitchy frame at 6-0 148 pounds.  Smooth controlled delivery with a high leg lift that coils in to get loaded.  Throws from a high ¾ arms slot with a quick athletic arm.  Fastball shows good life to it while running it up to 86.2 mph with an avg. spin at 2247 rpms.  Slider shows a sharp late break to it at 2/8.  Spun his SL at an avg spin at 2249 rpm while running it up to 75 mph.
