PBR Fall Championship - Southeast Scout Blog #2

Eddie Tisdale
Scouting Director - South Carolina

A continuation of the scouts notes from the PBR Fall Championship - SE, we take a look at some additional highlights as well as players who stood out at the event.

It's worth noting and can't be overstated how impressive the 5 Star 2022 group looked all weekend. During the inaugural PBR Fall Championship - Southeast the 5 Star Carolina's 2022's put together one of the most impressive 4 game spans of any team in the tournament. Behind an offensive onslaught and solid pitching efforts the 2022's went 4-0 to capture the Southeast Fall Championship scoring an impressive 48 runs along the way.

Several additional event highlights included:

- Dylan Smoak, Collin Hollingsworth, Daniel Brown, & Jacob Watkins are all uncommitted LH arms to follow; each turned in a quality outing for their respective organizations.

  • All four of these guys were working in the low to mid 80s with at least one solid secondary offering. Pitchability is the key word to describe these guys, each one controlled the game and kept hitters off balance. At present all 4 are uncommitted and worth a follow.

- Sam Swygert (RHP, South Aiken, 2020 - University of South Carolina commit) - recorded an event best FB of 90 mph.

  • Although his command was not at it's best the fastball still had plenty of life at the plate and the clean mechanics and quick arm suggest there could be even more in the tank when he gets to the next level.

- Tyler Burgess throws a complete game shutout for the Dirtbags 21's vs PBR Kentucky

  • This guy flat out threw a gem. Getting ahead of hitters with well located fastballs and showing his off speed just enough to keep hitters off balance. Not the most intimidating physical stature but the arm is quick and clean and the ball jumps from his hand. PBR South Carolina will most certainly be making a stop at Myrtle Beach HS this spring.

PBR Kentucky

Collin Hollingsworth, LHP, Highlands KY, (2020)

The 6th ranked LHP in Kentucky showed a confident presence on the mound and worked with a quick tempo. An athletic 6 foot 1 and 180 pounds give him the ability to develop physically as he matures. From a balanced wind up he reached a balance point at the belt and worked in line through landing and release. FB 81-83 T84 with arm side run at the plate. CB 68-70 with 1/7 shape.

US Elite 2021 South

Cooper LeTellier, 1B/OF, Ashley Ridge SC, (2021)

5 foot 9 180 pound first baseman, corner outfielder. Strong lower half and square shoulders. Has a toe/tap load mechanism at the plate he uses to get his hands back. Hands start just off the shoulder and away from the body before loading into a solid position with the barrel behind his head. Back elbow is slightly above the hands at launch creating a positive attack angle and loft through the hitting zone. Has a good understanding of the zone and showed a competitive approach against a left handed arm during game 1.

Cameron Howard, C/3B, Fort Dorchester SC, (2021)

5 foot 8 145 pound C/3B. Hit from a slightly open stance and hand set just off the shoulder. Higher leg kick and very little hand movement out side of a small barrel turn during the load phase. Stride foot landed slightly open and swings suggest he wants to pull the ball. Natural loft and positive attack angle present. Future power potential as he develops. Athletic ability suggest he could play corner INF/OF positions in addition to catching.

SC Dirtbags 2021's

Jett Seawell, INF/OF, Hammond, SC (2021)

Athletic utility man with a plus hit tool. Collected three hits in game one against DBAT Elite including a double. Starts with a tall stance, slightly open, and generates good separation between his hands and lower half. Lags the barrel inside the baseball from a shoulder high handset and high back elbow.

Luke Rice, INF, North Myrtle Beach SC, (2021)

6 foot 3, 215 pound first baseman with broad shoulders and strong lower half. Collected multiple hits to the pull side. Swing trended to the long side in advantage counts, but barrel awareness is present. High back elbow and a lofted bat path could produce future power potential.

SC Dirtbags 2020's

Logan West, INF/RHP, Columbus NC, (2020)

5 foot 11 slender frame with room to fill out. FB 77-79 T80 was controlled to both sides of the plate from an OTT slot. CB was used as an effective secondary pitch at 61-63 mph. Arm action is clean and will quicken up with future development. Athleticism was shown in the field at SS ranging up the middle to make plays and using present arm strength to carry throws to first base.

Luke Harvey, LHP/OF, Gaffney SC, (2020)

5 foot 10 LHP working from the wind up and getting to a balance point above the belt. Inconsistent downhill finish left some balls up in the zone. OTT arm slot produced FB's from 73-75 with a best of 76 and CB's 60-63 with 2/8 shape and early break. Show two different read moves to first base with runners on. At the plate hits from a stance slightly wider than his shoulders and loads the hands down and back in an effort to lift the ball. Gap to gap power when he engages the lower half.

DBAT Elite - Low Country

Zackery Morillo, OF/LHP May River SC, (2021)

The 6 foot 2 outfielder/LHP has present size and youth to his advantage. With long arms and big hand size there is plenty of room for potential growth. Took aggressive swings early in his at bats collecting a hit on the first pitch he saw of the tournament. Swing seemed to get big at times causing him to lose feel for the barrel through the zone. Negative attack angle will flatten out with maturity.
