SC Preseason All-State South: Quick Hitter - Upper class Position Players

On Saturday January 28th PBR of South Carolina was on hand at The Shipyard Park in Mount Pleasants for our Preseason All-State South Event. The event featured players from the 2023-2028 grad classes.

The day was split into two sessions.  The first sessions consisted of infielders and outfielders, and started with defensive evaluations followed by BP on the field with Trackman collecting ball flight data.  the players ran a laser timed 60 during an offensive rotation. 

The second sessions consisted of pitchers, catchers, and dual players.  This sessions started with players running a laser timed 60, followed by pitchers throwing a controlled bullpen with Trackman collecting data analytics, followed by defensive evaluations and finishing the day with BP on the field with Trackman collecting ball flight data.

Quick Hitters - Upper Class Position Players

 

Antonio Cochran, C, 2023

5-8 165 pound frame with present strength.  Hits from a slightly open stance and uses a leg lift to a good balanced hitting position.  Shows the ability to drive the ball to all fields.  Has an uphill path through the ball with good extension out front.  Behind the plate showed good flexibility with a really good exchange and release to good with very quick feet.  Had a top pop time of 1.93 with accurate throws.  

Cody Crafton, 3B/C, 2023

5-10 190 pound frame.  Open stance with good rhythm.  Uses a leg lift and medium stride to a balanced hitting position.  Showed power in the bat with a line drive approach with a flat path through the ball.  Had a max exit velo of 96.4 mph and a max distance of 305 feet.  

Braiden Moore, 1B, 2023

6-4, 220 pounds, and has a powerful, strong physique.  Standing tall and calm with rhythm in his hands, hits with a modest lift, a forward stride, and a balanced hitting position.  BP pull side power, reaching a top exit speed of 101.9 mph and a top distance of 384 ft.  Really rotates through the ball nicely, which enables the production of a bat and rapid hands.

Markey Purvis, 1B, 2023

A powerful strong frame with current strength of 6-0 and 245 pounds.  A maximum exit velocity of 100.4 mph and a maximum distance of 361 feet demonstrated strong power.  Has a natural lift in his swing with the ability to get the ball in the air.  BP with consistent strong contact and power to all fields.

Kameryn Rheuark, OF, 2023

6-0 160 pound lean frame with room to add on.  Simple setup with a medium leg lift and stride.  Has a flat swing through the ball with a good line drive approach while using the whole field.  Had a max exit velo of 82.5 mph.

Connor Shealy, C, 2023

6-3 240 large physical frame with current strength.  Hits from a wider stance and a no stride with balance.  Uphill path through the ball while showing pop in the bat.  Max velo up to 96.8 mph and a max distance of 336 feet.  Behind the plate moved well with good clean exchange and footwork while making accurate throws.

Oakley Aguliar, INF, 2024

5-8 athletic frame weighing 155 pounds with potential to grow.  Utilizing a pretty solid rhythm in his load while hitting from a slightly open stance.  A switch hitter who demonstrates bat control on both sides of the plate.  Keeps the barrel moving through the zone effectively and for a long period.  On the infield, the defense displays excellent movements and feet.  Possesses the ability to throw with various arm angles, enabling him to make all the plays on the field.  He will be able to stay on the left side of the field thanks to his strong arm across the diamond.

Thatcher Baughman, 3B, 2024

6-3 and 185 pounds, with room to expand, with a lean build.  Uses a leg lift to get coiled and loaded up while hitting from an open stance.  Barrel maintained a flat path through the zone with good extension while staying on plane with the pitch.  Maximum exit speed is 92.6 mph and a max distance of 327 feet.  Defensively played low to the ground while fielding the ball and front and working through it.  

Jackson Burton, OF, 2024

5-10 155 pound athletic frame.  Upright stance that is slightly open with some rhythm.  Lands in an athletic hitting position with an uphill path through the ball.  Had a max exit velo of 90 mph while doing a good job of staying on plane with the pitch.     

Tradd Burton, INF, 2024

5- 10 athletic frame at 155 pounds with room to add on.  Upright and open stance with a small stride.  Line drive approach while keeping his barrel through the zone.  A max exit velo of 88.2 mph.  Defensively showed smooth controlled actions while playing low to the ground with good arm strength across the diamond.

Dominic Camacho, INF, 2024

6-0 170 pound athletic frame with present strength and room to add on.  Wider crouched stance that's slightly open.  Showed a good line drive approach through the ball with good bat speed and consistent hard contact.  Did a good job of staying on plane with the pitch.    

Brody Cook, OF, 2024

6-1, 200 pounds, strong and athletic frame.  Hits with a short stride and a wider base to balance. Has a flat stroke through the zone that demonstrates strength in the swing.  Had a maximum distance of 348 feet and a maximum exit velocity of 91.4 mph.  Natural lift in swing while making consistent hard contact in BP.  

Gavin Edens, INF, 2024

5-9 158 pound frame.  Batting stance with loose, active hands. landing in a good, balanced hitting position with a medium leg lift.  Has a good short flat swing that allows him to stay through the zone.  Staying in the middle field with a good line drive approach.  Had a max exit velo of 90 mph.  Showed strong infield footwork and ball handling skills.

Perrin Ketchin, INF, 2024

5-11 165 pound athletic frame.  Slightly open stance with a good path down through the zone while staying down on the ball.  Uses a toe tap to get loaded to a strong hitting position.  Showed a good line drive approach with a max exit velo of 89.5 mph.  Defensively showed good clean actions while playing low to the ground and working through the ball,  Showed good arm strength across the diamond with his velo up to 86 mph.  

Brody Linker, INF, 2024

6-3 180 pound athletic frame with present strength and room to grow.  Simple setup with a medium stride to balance.  Line drive approach with a good path through the ball.  Showed power in the bat with a max exit velo of 98.7 mph and a max distance of 357 feet.  Defensively showed smooth clean actions with good soft hands.  Premium arm strength across the field while up to 91 mph. 

Noah McGarity, OF, 2024

5-10 180 pound frame with present strength.  Showed a good short flat path through the zone with a good line drive approach in the middle of the field.  Had a max exit velo up to 92.1 mph and a max distance of 346.  

Jayson Nash, INF, 2024

6-2 205 pound strong very physical frame.  Showed big power potential with the bat while making consistent hard contact.  Natural uphill path with a max exit velo of 93.4 mph and a max distance of 321 feet.  

Jack Painter, INF, 2024

A powerful athletic frame with current strength and room to expand, 6-2 and 180 pounds.  Hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and controlled load.  On plane, a pull side aggressive approach is performed with a short swing.  Had a max exit velo was 95 mph and a max distance of 347 feet.  Good ball carry and short arm movement. the capacity to toss with different arm angles.

Joshua Peterson, 1B, 2024

6-3 200 pound strong physical frame.  Slightly open stance with a bigger stride.  Aggressive pull side approach while working above the ball and making hard contact.  Had a max velo of 94.3 mph and a max distance of 305 feet.      

Michael Vandemark, 1B, 2024

6-5 220 pound large physical frame.  Tall upright stance with a medium stride to balance.  Big power potential in bat with a good path through the ball.  Consistent hard contact with some lift in swing while producing a max exit velo of 96.9 mph and a max distance of 341 feet.
