On Saturday, February 27, 2021, Prep Baseball Report Minnesota will be conducting its 2nd annual PBR Spring Preview- South Dakota event, to be held at the Avera Dome in Sioux Falls, SD.

Last year, in the first ever event in South Dakota, we saw both committed and uncommitted talent in all classes.  The event had a strong showing overall with a handful of commitments to some big schools.  We saw mound heavy dominance in both the 2021 and 2022, with most noteworthy being the class of 2022, RHP, Austin Henry out of Dell Rapids who had already made a verbal commitment to Wichita State.  A projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 195-pound the righty showed a fastball at 86-88 mph a year ago.  Henry is ranked #2 in Minnesota’s 2022 class and ranked 309th overall in PBR’s 2022 national rankings.

Another striking RHP is Harrisburg’s ‘22, Will Simmons who is ranked #6 in MN 2022 Class.  The North Carolina commit was an immediate stand-out at the event.  Simmons, who has a fastball that sits 86-87 mph topping at 88 mph, also shows command of an above average breaking ball and change-up.  Simmons will again be in attendance on February 27th and we are excited to see his growth from a year ago.

In the 2021 graduating class, two players predominantly stood out from the pack, the first was Rapid City’s RHP/1B, Jake Goble out of St. Thomas More High School. The South Dakota State commit has a big frame at 6-foot-5, 225-pounds.  The right hander produced a fastball that was consistently 87-90 mph with life.  Goble is ranked #11 in Minnesota’s 2021 Class.

The other was Viborg-Hurley’s 2-way talent, OF/RHP, Chase Mason. A combination of size and athleticism landed Mason at the University of Nebraska next year.  His workout in February was just a small sample of what followed that summer.  At 6-foot-4, 215-pounds, the future Husker runs a 6.66 60 yard dash, has an arm strength of 94 mph and an exit velocity of 99 mph. Mason is ranked #1 in MN 2021 and 72nd Nationally in PBR’s 2021 class overall.

Players to keep an eye on at the Spring Preview are: Harrisburg’s Carter Bahrenfuss and Kai Yungbluth, along with Sioux Falls Roosevelt Kyler Miritello. Looking forward to many more players jump into the fray as well; as there is sure to be surprises and quality players not previously identified in attendance.

This event is designed to allow players to showcase their ability which allows colleges to identify prospective student-athletes earlier in the recruiting process or find players needed immediately for next year. Players will also be evaluated and considered for updated player rankings along with being considered for future PBR “Invite-Only” events. The showcase will be featured on the PBR’s website, where more than 900 college coaches subscribe to look for talent. Scouting reports, statistics, and videos will be hosted in player profiles. Top players will also be identified from this event.
