Prep Baseball Report is excited for the return of Player of the Year Awards, presented by Big League Chew, after the 2020 season was cut short and 2021 generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout Tennessee. As the spring high school season wrapped up at the end of May, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.

Cooper Kinney | Baylor School | 3B/UTL | 2021

The South Carolina signee put together a stellar senior campaign while handling third base and catching duties for the Red Raiders during their run of three consecutive D2-AA State Championships. Lean, athletic frame with a smooth swing from the left side while showing hit and power tools has allowed Kinney to climb some drafts board as we head into July. He finished the year batting .480 with 19 doubles, 1 triple, and 10 home runs while driving in 50 and scoring 35 runs in 31 games. Kinney was a vital piece in the middle of the order for the top ranked Baylor School and garnered TBCA D2-AA Mr. Baseball honors as well. Kinney’s all-around performance, as well as the impact he has had on the Baylor School Red Raiders, has earned him the 2021 Prep Baseball Report Tennessee Player of the Year honors.

Cooper Kinney has been selected by the staff of Prep Baseball Report of Tennessee. The team of PBR area scouts who covered the high school baseball season throughout the spring selected Kinney amongst a strong group of candidates from across the state. The Prep Baseball Report staff has been diligently scouting and covering games at diamonds across the state this spring to bring parents, athletes and fans the most comprehensive coverage of amateur baseball across the United States. The dedication and coverage allow Prep Baseball Report a credible way to identify the top athletes each year who best represent the state of Tennessee.
