It won't be long before we're hearing the ringing of high school bats and popping of leather mitts as the 2022 high school season will kick off on March 14th. We've been rolling out preseason coverage with team previews and team/class rankings will be presented in the near future.

At the conclusion of last season, we posted our inaugural PBR TN All-State teams featuring three rosters and 75 total players. Those teams were selected based on a blend of high school stats and also prospect profile as it was a great way to recognize some incredible individual performances from the 2021 season. For this upcoming season, we've decided to put together a PBR TN All-State watchlist in the form of the PBR TN Top 100. To be clear, this is not a top 100 prospect rankings. This list is formed based on a combination of factors: 1. projected production in hitting/pitching 2. player will play an integral role in their school's success 3. simply these are the players that opposing coaches do not want to see on the mound or at bat in big game moments. As we release the list you'll see: Mr. baseball winners/finalist, limited players per high school, some power 5 commits will not included, some D2/Juco commits will be included, and uncommitted players will be included. This list is centered around production and the ability to impact games every single night of the season.

We can look at it a few ways, so first let's think of it as a 2022 TN high school fantasy baseball rankings. If you were constructing a team, you're gonna want guys who suit up every night and are gonna log a lot of at bats and innings on the mound to maximize stat output. This list features a lot of team's aces and meat of the order hitters, who may play a key position defensively or produce as a two-way. Fantasy sports websites always put out a preseason rankings to help consumers draft and help maximize their season success. The second way to to observe the list, is consider crossing sport lines in comparison to the annual NFL Top 100. For those not familiar, the NFL Top 100 is a preseason publication that honors the top 100 players voted on by the players. They usually roll it out and players give insight on other players abilities, but often fans are fully engaged in dissecting and criticizing the surprises and "snubs." For an example, I think it would be hard pressed to convince anyone that Tom Brady is NOT the best player to suit it up in the NFL, entirely based on his stats, records, awards, championships, etc. However, Brady has only been voted no. 1 three times in the past decade with his last being before the 2018 season. Also, Cooper Kupp was arguably the best wide receiver this past season, racking up nearly 2,000 receiving yards and a Super Bowl MVP, but he wasn't featured on the preseason list. Soooo with that being said sit back and enjoy the list, its purpose is a fun way for players and parents to follow numerous skilled high school kids this season.

*One more time for the people in the back: This is not a Top 100 prospects list*

No. 11-20

Cole Torbett LHP / OF / Science Hill, TN / 2022

No. 20: Torbett was the driving force for the Toppers during their state championship season. He was the top arm on the bump, manned CF, and played a key role in the offense. He twirled a 3-hit shutout in the 1-0 vs Siegel at the Spring Fling, then went 3-4 with 3 RBIs in the title game from the leadoff spot. He finished the year going 8-1 with a 1.79 ERA while hitting .381 with 16 extra base hits, good enough for second team All-PBR honors as a two-way. The MTSU commit preps for his senior campaign and is hopeful to help lead the Toppers to back-to-back titles.

Jordan Carter OF / 3B / Grace Christian, TN / 2023

No. 19: Last Spring, Carter ripped 15 jacks along with 9 doubles while driving in 41 runs plus 14 stolen bases, which earned him first team All-PBR. He attended his second PBR Future Games this summer, and he committed to Memphis in the early Fall. The CF still has two Spring seasons to go, but he should factor heavily towards the top of the lineup for a talented GCA club.

Brady Smith RHP / SS / Grainger, TN / 2023

No. 18: I was probably a East TN traffic jam away from seeing Smith in person last Spring, but the numbers speak for themselves. He went 8-0 on the bump with a 0.91 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 53.2 innings last Spring, earning third team All-PBR honors. There are reports of the Virginia Tech commit in the upper 80s with a sharp high spin SL, and he'll look to dominate once again while making a deep run with Grainger.

Jake Wilson LHP / OF / Trinity Christian , TN / 2022

No. 17: Wilson was outstanding last season for Trinity Christian, serving as the ace on a deep staff and handling duties in CF. The MTSU commit complied a 7-3 record with a 1.36 ERA and 101 strikeouts in 56.1 innings. On top of that, he batted .358 with 9 doubles and 2 home runs, which earned him first team All-PBR honors. The Former Future Gamers looks to go on a redemption tour this Spring and help Trinity Christian make a deep postseason run.

Cooper Clapp SS / 3B / Hardin County, TN / 2022

No. 16: What more is there to say about Cooper Clapp? Last year, hit his .409 from the left side with 11 doubles and 5 home runs while playing a crisp shortstop for the Tigers. The Notre Dame commit also went 7-1 with a 0.64 ERA on the mound including a CG win against Clarksville in the state tourney opening game. He locked up second team All-PBR last Spring as a two-way and will look to help get Hardin County back to the Spring Fling and potentially capture the title this year.

Christian Lim LHP / OF / Montgomery Bell, TN / 2023

No. 15: The Stanford commit has shown to be one of the most consistent pitchers in the state. Every start spectators and opposing teams can expect upper 80s to 90 FBs that don't go straight then two advanced off speed offerings. MBA's ace is an absolute competitor on the mound and pitches with an edge while attacking the zone. Intriguing to see how MBA competes overall, but Lim is a tough matchup for any lineup.

Carson Rucker SS / 3B / Goodpasture Christian, TN / 2023

No. 14: As a sophomore, Rucker handled third base and mashed baseballs for Goodpasture. He hit .440 with 16 doubles, 5 home runs, and 35 RBIs, earning him second team All-PBR last Spring. He's continued to grow in his frame and develop more power to go along with his very consistent defensive tools. Goodpasture lost a couple of key pieces, but Rucker looks to continue to elevate his game and answer the call.

Langston Patterson 2B / OF / Christ Presbyterian Academy, TN / 2022

No. 13: Patterson's future may lie on the gridiron, as he's signed to play football at Vanderbilt. However, don't let it take away from his ability to impact games for the defending state champs. He garnered first team All-PBR last season after hitting .421 with 12 doubles and 12 home runs while driving in 48 runs and stealing 34 bases. He's back for one last ride and will be a crucial piece in a deep CPA lineup as they look to make another run after moving up to D2-AA.

Dylan Loy LHP / 1B / Pigeon Forge, TN / 2023

No. 12: The Tennessee commit was lights out last season as Pigeon Forge finished the season as 2A runner ups. He went 13-1 with a 0.42 ERA, 164 strikeouts, and 11 walks in 82.2 innings, earning All-PBR first team and TBCA 2A Mr. Baseball. As we mentioned, he returns with Riley Franklin to lead the staff and hit in the middle of the order. Pigeon Forge will be a favorite to secure the 2A state title in the 2022 season.

Blake Bevis 1B / RHP / Ravenwood, TN / 2022

No. 11: If my memory is correct, Bevis just narrowly missed making All-PBR last Spring after having a strong Spring as an impact two-way. He hit in the middle of the order and served as a big moment relief arm that could provide length and close games out. He probably hit some of the hardest balls I saw this past Spring, and he'll look to do much of the same this season. The Ball State commit will be featured on a deep Ravenwood roster who captured the regular season district title before falling to Beech in sub-state. They have the weapons to make a serious run and Bevis will play a key role on both sides.
