It won't be long before we're hearing the ringing of high school bats and popping of leather mitts as the 2022 high school season will kick off on March 14th. We've been rolling out preseason coverage with team previews and team/class rankings will be presented in the near future.

At the conclusion of last season, we posted our inaugural PBR TN All-State teams featuring three rosters and 75 total players. Those teams were selected based on a blend of high school stats and also prospect profile as it was a great way to recognize some incredible individual performances from the 2021 season. For this upcoming season, we've decided to put together a PBR TN All-State watchlist in the form of the PBR TN Top 100. To be clear, this is not a top 100 prospect rankings. This list is formed based on a combination of factors: 1. projected production in hitting/pitching 2. player will play an integral role in their school's success 3. simply these are the players that opposing coaches do not want to see on the mound or at bat in big game moments. As we release the list you'll see: Mr. baseball winners/finalist, limited players per high school, some power 5 commits will not included, some D2/Juco commits will be included, and uncommitted players will be included. This list is centered around production and the ability to impact games every single night of the season.

We can look at it a few ways, so first let's think of it as a 2022 TN high school fantasy baseball rankings. If you were constructing a team, you're gonna want guys who suit up every night and are gonna log a lot of at bats and innings on the mound to maximize stat output. This list features a lot of team's aces and meat of the order hitters, who may play a key position defensively or produce as a two-way. Fantasy sports websites always put out a preseason rankings to help consumers draft and help maximize their season success. The second way to to observe the list, is consider crossing sport lines in comparison to the annual NFL Top 100. For those not familiar, the NFL Top 100 is a preseason publication that honors the top 100 players voted on by the players. They usually roll it out and players give insight on other players abilities, but often fans are fully engaged in dissecting and criticizing the surprises and "snubs." For an example, I think it would be hard pressed to convince anyone that Tom Brady is NOT the best player to suit it up in the NFL, entirely based on his stats, records, awards, championships, etc. However, Brady has only been voted no. 1 three times in the past decade with his last being before the 2018 season. Also, Cooper Kupp was arguably the best wide receiver this past season, racking up nearly 2,000 receiving yards and a Super Bowl MVP, but he wasn't featured on the preseason list. Soooo with that being said sit back and enjoy the list, its purpose is a fun way for players and parents to follow numerous skilled high school kids this season.

*One more time for the people in the back: This is not a Top 100 prospects list*

Top 100

No. 91-100

No. 81-90

No. 71-80

No. 61-70

No. 51-60

No. 41-50

No. 31-40

No. 21-30

Bryant Beranek RHP / OF / Columbia Academy, TN / 2022

No. 30: Beranek served as the no. 2 arm behind Kavares Tears last Spring and helped lead them to a strong season. The MTSU commit went 8-2 with a 1.62 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 72 innings, which earned him third team All-PBR. He'll be the ace this year for a CA club that will look to build off last season. Beranek attacks the zone (only 10 BB in 2021) and can mix a FB at 90 and sharp SL,not to mention he's shown some pop at the plate in the meat of the order.

Adam Jamison RHP / 3B / Middle Tennessee Christian, TN / 2022

No. 29: Last year, Jamison played a crucial role for MTCS success as he hit in the heart of the order and served as the no. 2 arm behind JD McCracken. He's ran the FB up to 91 and has always spun the breaking ball well, which should be bode well in an ace role. Positionally, plays the left side of the infield and swings a gap power bat from the left side. It'll be a very competitive district and Jamison will be the tone setter for MTCS.

Cade Law C / OF / Christ Presbyterian , TN / 2022

No. 28: Law just has a knack for finding ways to win championships after taking home state titles in Football and Baseball last school year (plus a football runner up this fall). The Vandy commit will handle the pitching staff and hit in the middle of the order for a very physical CPA team. He's got plenty of juice at the plate from the left side and should drive in plenty of runs during the 2022 campaign.

Ollie Akens RHP / McMinn County, TN / 2022

No. 27: Akens helped lead McMinn County in a historic season reaching the state tournament for the first time in school history. The MTSU commit has a three pitch mix with good feel and pounds the zone. His FB is in the upper 80s with a sharp bending breaking ball, and fading changeup. He's still very wiry and has more in the tank, but he can put some lineups in the blender when his stuff is going. McMinn losses several key arms from last years club, so Akens will be squarely at the forefront of the pitching staff.

Brody Lanham RHP / 1B / Clarksville , TN / 2022

No. 26: Lanham was a breakout arm during the 2022 Spring season as he emerged as Clarksville go-to guy on the bump. He went 9-1 with a 1.00 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 63 innings, which earned him third team All-PBR honors. He's got a towering, lanky frame and the FB worked into the upper 80s. Helped guide Clarksville to the state tournament after turning in an absolute gem in the region semifinals vs Mt. Juliet. With Magrans gone, Lanham will be the certified ace for the Wildcats as they'll look to make a run in 2022.

Matthew Dallas LHP / 1B / Briarcrest, TN / 2023

No. 25: The tall, lanky southpaw really got his first taste of high school baseball last season as he transitioned over to Briarcrest. He twirled a gem in the state tournament to get the Saints into the title game with 6 innings, 2 hits, and 11 strikeouts. He was up to 88 and the breaking ball is shaping up nicely, but he's still just scratching the surface of his potential. With some key losses for Briarcrest, Dallas will step into more of a frontline role and helped them make a push in 2022.

Seth Garner RHP / 3B / Hardin County, TN / 2022

No. 24: Last season was certainly special in Hardin County and Garner was an absolute game changer for the Tigers. It seemed he delivered every single time in the big moments on both sides of the ball. The Memphis commit went 5-0 on the mound with 0.71 ERA and 52 punch outs in 49.2 innings. At the plate, he hit .343 with 9 doubles and 7 HR while driving in 31 runs, which earned him third team All-PBR honors. His sub state performances included a CG shutout and the game deciding three-run home run to edge Collierville and book their tickets to the Spring Fling. They'll have a good core back, so expect more of the same in 2022.

Riley Franklin RHP / 1B / Pigeon Forge , TN / 2022

No. 23: Riley Franklin was an absolute force for Pigeon Forge during their runner up season. The ETSU commit served as the no. 2 arm and hit in the four hole. He went 9-2 on the mound with a 1.81 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 69.2 innings. At the plate, he batted .381 with 17 doubles, 2 triples, and 8 HRs while driving in 51 runs, which helped he earn second team All-PBR honors. This year he'll still be the 1-2 punch with Dylan Loy and the Tigers will be one of the top clubs in 2A.

Logan Poteet C / 3B / Powell , TN / 2022

No. 22: Poteet was a crucial piece for Powell as they put together a strong resume before getting knocked out in region play. The Vandy commit is an advanced defender behind the dish and solid arm on the mound. He hit .409 with 10 doubles and 4 home runs while driving in 31 runs, which earned him second team All-PBR. With Mr. Baseball Logan Sutton gone, Poteet will be the main focus for opposing clubs as Powell should be very competitive in their new 4A district.

Luke Johnson SS / 2B / Heritage, TN / 2022

No. 21: The switch hitting Johnson was very impressive in our looks last year. He can really handle the stick from both sides of the plate and hit for power. The MTSU commit hit .457 with 7 doubles, 2 triples, and 8 jacks while driving in 41 runs, which earned him second team All-PBR honors. He'll handle duties up the middle and is a very solid arm on the mound. He'll look to lead the Mountaineers this season.
