The 2022 TN high school season is less than a week away! Teams across the state are making the final touches and prepping for the Spring campaign. With season around the corner, the PBR TN Preseason Power 25 Rankings returns for our second season highlighting the top clubs to and Spring Fling hopefuls. Of the 25 programs featured in the 2021 preseason rankings, 12 of them reached the state tournament: #1 Baylor, #2 Farragut, #3 CAK, #4 Beech, #5 CPA, #8 Briarcrest, #16 Siegel, #19 Clarksville, #20 McCallie, #21 Science Hill, #23 McMinn County, and #24 Pigeon Forge. Three of those clubs walked away state champions (Baylor, CPA, & Science Hill) and two finished runner up (Briarcrest & Pigeon Forge). This year will hopefully be more of the same, littered with teams making serious postseason runs in 2022. The Power 25 is determined by returning prospects, season outlook, and building off last season for teams from all classifications.

We'll continue to update this list throughout the season and expand our coverage with the TN Preseason Class Rankings coming out on opening day (March 14th). Be sure to stay tuned as we continue releasing the PBR TN Top 100 and Team Previews to provide top notch coverage of high school teams and prospects. For the Power 25, let's get started with no. 21-25....

Preseason Power 25 Rankings

No. 21-25

No. 16-20

No. 11-15

No. 6-10

No. 1-5

No. 5 Goodpasture (Last year: 31-5 | D2-A)
The Cougars were a force last season as they swept the district and rolled into region play at 31-3. However, they were upended in the Middle Region dropping the first two games to bring their season an abrupt close. It was a deep roster with many of them returning for the 2022 campaign, and they'll be on a redemption tour this go around. The left side of the infield returns with '22 SS Trace Anderson (Freed Hardeman Commit) and '23 3B Carson Rucker (Tennessee Commit) while they'll have some options to fill the right side. They'll have a deep crop of outfielders with '22 OF Tanner Jones (MTSU Commit), '22 OF Tyler Jones (MTSU Commit), '23 OF/RHP Jaron Elkins (Wright State Commit), '24 OF Bishop Quarles (Ohio State Commit). They'll have plenty of options on the mound as well as '23 RHP Connor Martin (Wright State Commit) returns as the number one arm, working in the upper 80s with high spin breaking ball. '22 RHP Jonah Smithson (Trevecca Commit) has been up to 90 and flashed some lively stuff while '23 LHP Luke Payne (Tennessee Commit) has touched 90 to help lead the staff.  '23 1B/LHP Tanner Lane will be a physical bat from the left side and ran it up 88 on the mound this summer as he'll look to have a breakout season. '24 INF Tyson Henderlight will be a younger guy to watch who has shown some upside after transferring in from Wilson Central. A mix of high level arms and blend of speed and power in the lineup is a good formula for the Cougars as they'll look to push deeper in the postseason this go around.

No. 4 Lipscomb Academy (Last year: 20-11 | D2-AA)
The Mustangs lead the pack in the Middle region securing the regular season title and winning the top seed over Brentwood Academy. They reached the first round of state with a three game series with McCallie at home. After taking the first game, Lipscomb dropped the next two ending their season at 20-11. They had some hiccups during the season last year, but return a team that can compete with the best clubs in the state. The headliner will be '23 LHP/1B Miller Green (Georgia Tech Commit), who was the ace and hit in the three hole during a Mr. Baseball finalist campaign. They'll also have veteran arms in '22 RHP Will Dugan (Lipscomb Commit), '22 RHP Willie Walton (Uncommitted), and '22 RHP Braden Bornstein (Uncommitted), who have all been very consistent pieces on the mound and carry a solid inning load. '22 RHP/INF Andrew Davidson (Harding Commit) and '22 OF/LHP Tyler Schrampf (Southwest TN CC Commit) also return and can provide production on both sides in their senior season. '22 OF Jacob Ralston (Uncommitted) will be a senior to watch who flashed good pop and great athleticism as he'll try to secure a college commitment. They'll have options on the infield let by '23 INF Hunter High (Tennessee Commit), who can play all three spots and swing it from the left side, plus '22 2B Teddy Paul and '24 switch hitting MINF Alex Junghans (Wake Forest Commit). '22 C Aden Napier (Trevecca Commit) returns behind the dish to handle the staff and provide some thump in the order. Lippy will be a deep, veteran heavy club that will look past last year slip up and try to get back to the Boro.

No. 3 Farragut (Last year: 38-7 | 4A)
The Admirals have been a blue blood program for quite some time, and last season they continued their reign. Farragut captured the regular season and district tournament championships plus defeated some tough clubs during regions and sub-state to make another appearance at the Spring Fling. They went 2-2 in Murfreesboro, dropping both games to Hardin County to end their season. The Ads will lose a good senior group and look to be very sophomore heavy this season with some key upperclass pieces as well. '22 RHP Jaxson Pease (Tennessee Tech Commit) is coming off a pitcher of the year season, and he looks to follow it up with a strong senior campaign. '22 C Garrett Brewer (Uncommitted) returns behind the plate and be more of an anchor for the younger club. '23 3B/RHP Jett Johnston (Texas A&M commit) moved in from Texas and will look to be a physical bat in the order and also flash some velocity on the mound. '23 LHP Ashton Sulack and '23 RHP Matthew Kilbey will be older arms that have contributed and step into a bigger role on the mound along with '22 right handed sidewinder Kaleb Toon. '24 Brennon Seigler (Tennessee Commit) had a great freshman year, and will look to develop into more of a leader in his second season. The Admirals will have several younger lefty bats to watch in '24 3B/OF Landis Davilla (Virginia Tech Commit), '24 MINF Lukas Buckner, and '24 RHP/OF Michael Delph, who all got some quality time last season. '24 RHP/CINF Eli Evans was featured heavily last year as a good arm and power bat to follow plus '24 RHP Stratton Scott looks to figure in the mix on the mound. One final sophomore to watch will be '24 OF Jack Alley, who has a big physical frame and could help fill holes in the outfield. It will be a much different look this season, but the Admirals are looking to reload and book their somewhat annual trip to the Spring Fling.

No. 2 Collierville (Last year: 32-10 | 4A)
The Dragons had a great season and were heavily featured in the rankings last season, but they really hit a lull at the end of the season. Collierville went 3-5 in May including three losses to Houston and a final loss to Hardin County in sub-state. They return a very deep club with plenty of quality arms and bats up and down the order. The headliner will be no.1 ranked prospect '22 RHP Grayson Saunier (Ole Miss Commit), who will be a big time arm and can contribute with the bat as well. '23 3B/RHP Thomas Crabtree (ETSU Commit) will be a consistent contributor on both sides and should slot into a district role behind Saunier. '22 RHP Ryan Neilson (Radford Commit) should pick a bunch of innings, especially with '22 RHP Luke Whaley (Harding Commit) out this season. '23 RHP Bryce Griffith put together some strong outings last year after moving up from JV, and '23 LHP/OF Tyler Johns has shown some upside. '23 RHP Scott Wyatt looks to fill a bullpen role and close out some games when needed. Positionally, '22 1B Grant Ross (Union Univ. Commit) returns to the middle of the order and has some big time pop from the left side. '22 SS Cade Leatherwood (Northwest Miss. CC Commit) returns up the middle and can make all the plays while handling the stick as well. '22 C Christian Dunn (Grayson JC Commit) is back behind the plate, and can really handle the pitching staff. Collierville could be interchangeable with #3 Farragut, but they're an older club that should be very steady and push to make it back to state after ending 2021 on a tough note.

No. 1 Baylor School (Last year: 26-3 | D2-AA)
The Red Raiders went wire to wire as the number one ranked club in 2021, going 26-3 and only lost to one Tennessee club. They swept through the postseason and captured their third straight D2-AA state title, defeating Briarcrest 8-1 to end the year. They lost a big portion of their roster and some key arms, but they have a talented group of fresh faces, who will either continue to build their resume or have a breakout season. '22 SS Henry Godbout (Virginia Commit) will be the leader in the lineup with a smooth stick and play multiple spots on the infield. '23 INF Henry Ford (Virginia Commit) transferred in, flashing good athleticism and will rotate around the infield with Godbout. '22 C Jonathan Larrea (Murray St Commit) is an excellent defender to handle the staff and can provide some depth on the mound with '23 C Mack Whitcomb being a very quality backup option. '22 OF Carson Yates (MTSU Commit) will get more consistent time and flashed some impressive power. '23 OF Caleb Hampton (South Carolina Commit) and '24 OF Amari Jefferson (Tennessee Commit) starred on the gridiron and split time last season, but the Red Raiders will need them to help fill production from last year. '23 3B John Emendorfer, '22 INF Gaston Carmichael, and '22 1B/OF Hunter Herndon consistently rotated in the lineup and expect to play a larger role with more opportunities. '22 RHP Patrick Johnson (MTSU Commit) will lead the pitching staff after a strong, consistent season last year on the bump. '24 LHP Tomas Valinicius looks to be a breakout arm to help fill a ton of losses innings. '24 RHP/OF Kennith Lohmann transferred in-state and can shown some good skills as a two-way, but looks to be a key clog on the mound. '25 RHP/SS Matt Dill showed to be a very serviceable arm as freshman, who can throw strikes with FB sneaking into the mid 80s and a depthy changeup. Baylor lost a big chunk of their lineup, but their roster depth provides them plenty of options to fill and not skip a beat in 2022.
