Nashville Preseason ID: Quick Hits

Hunter Martin
Tennessee Scouting Director

GALLATIN, TN - The Prep Baseball Nashville Preseason ID was held on Sunday, February 2nd at Liberty Creek HS. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Vald Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan during a bullpen setting. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Continuing our post-event coverage for the event, we take a look at some of the standouts from the Nashville Preseason ID. Please be sure to continue to check back as we release other leaderboards from the event, along with the scouting reports on all players in attendance.

QUICK HITS

Jacob Adamson SS / 2B / Blackman, TN / 2026

The Blackman product was someone that we had circled coming into the Nashville Preseason ID and we came away excited in what we saw from Adamson. Coming in with a lean compact frame that already flashes athletic movements with plenty of room for added strength, but he packs a punch regardless. He would come away with a 97 MPH EV with an easy flowing swing that showed both shortness and quickness to the ball. Look out for Adamson as he also flashes a sure-handed glove in the middle infield where he plays very easy to the bal and someone that we are particularly high on.

Max Long RHP / RHP / Smith County High School, TN / 2027

The sophomore gave us our first look since last February and boy did he have a strong day. Starting at the plate, Long would flash above average bat speed with easy leverage through the zone. He would pace the group with a 72 mph average bat speed, while also showing swings at 75 mph. At 6 foot and 175 pounds, Long will surely pack on more size as he develops. He would go on to finish with 97 mph EV, while also leading the pack with an 87.4 average EV for his rounds with majority live drives through the back of the net. He is someone that is putting the pieces together and had one of the better all-around performances of the day.

Burton Moore 3B / RHP / Columbia Central, TN / 2026

The last time that we saw Burton Moore was July of 2023 where he came in with some athletic make-up that was rising into his sophomore year of high school. I had this to say about him at the time “Athletic kid that is rising into his sophomore year. Showed present arm strength with low 80’s across the diamond from SS. Has solid feet and ability to control the lower half in athletic movements. Clean shapes to his actions that leads into a clean arm action. Potential may be on the mound as he sat 80-83 mph with the fastball, while touching 84. Solid ability to spin the pitch as he averages in the 2000’s RPM’s, while showing the ability to get into the high 2200 range. Flowed really nicely down the mound and again with control of his body exceptionally well. Had some of the best command with about 75% strikes being thrown, which bodes well for him pitching at a high level going forward. Fastball shows a lot of downward tilt that should work well down in the zone and will generate a lot of ground balls. Secondary offerings are not there yet with his fastball but offer potential as he gains understanding of wrist positioning and intent with offerings.” - Murfreesboro Open (July, 11th, 2023) He has since grown about 4 inches in height to go with another 25 pounds over that span and he did not disappoint at the Nashville Preseason ID where he sat 87-89, some with 20 inches of vertical, while also clocking 90 mph on his last pitch of the evening. The uncommitted junior should be the number 2 this year for a strong Columbia Central team and we are excited to see him in game this spring. Someone to definitely keep an eye out on as the velocity looks like it will continue to climb with already established strike-throwing ability.

EJ Larkin 2B / OF / Creek Wood, TN / 2025

The uncommitted senior attended the Knights Scout day this fall where he was a standout performer and has backed it up again at Nashville Preseason All-State where he had eye-poping numbers in multiple categories. Larkin brings some physicality to the profile with present strength built from the ground up. Showed elite barrel recognition and control with a high barrelled contact rate percentage. Paced the entire group with a 98 mph EV that showed flashes for more, while also leading the group with an 89 mph average EV. Showed one of the highest Vizual Edge scores at the event just north of an 80 grade score, which equates to recognition and eye tracking with incoming pitches. This bodes well for his continued development, especially with pitch selection while hitting. High character kid with room to continue to grow and one that a lot of schools should take a look at this spring for Creekwood.

Jesse Owens OF / RHP / Davidson Academy, TN / 2028

The Davidson Academy freshman gave us our first look this past spring as an 8th grader and we have been excited to get him back ever since. Looks like he is developing nicely with the stick, as well as with the arm. There is some length in the profile at 6 foot, while also remaining extremely projectable with the frame just shy of 170 pounds. He should continue to gain strength as he matures but already is showing flashes with force in the barrel. He would come away with a max estimated distance of 320 feet and 94 max EV with a line drive approach, mainly to the pull side. 83 mph on the mound and across the diamond, more raw on the mound at the moment, but looks like he has the makings of being able to control himself down the mound for continued velocity development and strike-throwing ability. Stock is high on Owens.

Bek Ramer OF / RHP / Brentwood Academy, TN / 2027

Ramer was someone that we have been familiar with as he was a part of the 2023 Junior Future Games team down at LakePoint. He carried a strong frame for that age, but was still somewhat raw and a bit overmatched. I think failing in this game is always beneficial and with the right approach, can push you to learn and grow in your game. Bek was someone that really showed a lot coming out of the Nashville Preseason ID. The frame continues to develop and should be able to hold a decent amount of weight but already showed present strength in the swing with multiple lower 90 mph exit velocities with a max 315 distance. Should get varsity playing time this spring for a BA team that has a decent amount of returning talent.

Cooper Hart LHP / LHP / Fred J Page, TN / 2025

Cooper was making his second appearance with us and came in a bit stronger and bigger than this past summer. Chattanooga State commit that shows some projection on the mound. Low 80’s with the fastball but looks like he can hold more in the tank and the junior college route is a good opportunity for him.

Wyatt Ayers OF / SS / Columbia Academy, TN / 2027

The sophomore made his first impression for our staff and had strong showings all-around. Athletic prospect that holds a muscular look. Twitchy in his movement patterns on defense where he moved well to both sides. There is some quickness to his swing and works well with the lower half through the zone. Loud barrels with a ground ball approach, as he can stay on top of the baseball through the zone. Still has some ways to go with his overall approach but shows ingredients.

Will Platz C / RHP / Fred J Page, TN / 2028

The freshman Platz comes in with a strong frame with projection in the build. Clean with his mechanics in a methodical approach down the mound. Doesn’t rush or force his arm speed, which leads to a lot of control with the fastball. Stays downplane and finishes well over his front side, although can pull off his breaking balls. Just a freshman, but shows right movement patterns and developing arm speed in the low 80’s. If I was a varsity coach, I would give him opportunities this spring season to get his feet sporadically wet as he will be a future arm you will rely on. Stock up.
