East TN College Prospect Showcase: Outfield Analysis

The PBR East Tennessee College Prospect Showcase took place on Saturday, January 17 in Knoxville and included some impressive performances from the group of players in attendance.  Over the coming days we will feature evaluations from the event by position group.  The following is a look at the group of outfielders who were in attendance.

Evan Porter, 2017, OF, R/R, Maryville HS
The 6 foot, 195-pound prospect significantly improved every measurable, showed good projectability and athleticism, had an exit velocity off the tee of 84 mph, ran a 4.40 home to first base time, had a short stride, average balance, good bat speed, power type hitter with an aggressive approach. Position velocity was 88 mph from the outfield, had average hands, long exchange, good arm strength, can improve on his footwork, a guy to keep a close eye on in the 2017 class.

Zackary Byron, 2016, OF, L/L, Daniel Boone HS
The 6 foot 1, 160-pound prospect showed good projectablilty and athleticism, had an exit velocity of 78 mph off the tee , ran a 4.52 home to first base time, had an athletic setup at the plate ,smooth back load, short swing path with good extension, high hand finish, showed some bat speed in batting practice, good approach, line drive type hitter with future gap power potential. Position velocity from the outfield was 81 mph, showed soft hands, fluid footwork and a clean exchange, had quick instincts and arm action, a player to keep an eye on.

Justin Shaw, 2016, OF, L/L, Grace Christian Academy
The 5 foot 11, 142-pound prospect, lanky frame with projectability, had a 77mph exit velocity off the tee, ran a 4.7 home to first base time, had an open setup, smooth back load, good balance, fast bat speed, good approach at the plate, line drive type hitter with fluid rhythm,  Shaw’s bat will really take off once he continues to get stronger. Position velocity from the outfield was 82 mph, had good footwork  and arm strength, plays through the ball with athletic actions, player to keep an eye on in 2016 class.

Quentin Polinski, 2017, OF, R/R, Dobyns-Bennett HS
The 5 foot 8, 150-pound prospect has an athletic build, had an exit velocity off the tee of 75 mph, showed some speed with 4.48 home to first base time, had an open setup with a leg kick, good balance, average bat speed, compact swing, can get to extension better at times, line drive type hitter. Position Velocity from the outfield was 75 mph, average footwork in playing through the ball, should continue to develop additional arm strength.

Jeremiah Howard, 2016, OF, R/R, Knoxville Central HS
The 5 foot 8, 195- pound prospect showed good athleticism, has a strong and athletic build, exit velocity off the tee was 82 mph, flashed speed with a 4.20 home to first base time, had an athletic setup with a short stride, average balance, average bat speed, has a tendency to drop his hands adding some length to swing, aggressive hitter, gap to gap type hitter. Position velocity from the outfield was 84 mph, had average hands, quick footwork, could be a player to keep an eye on as he continues to improve raw skills.

Grant Oliver , 2015, OF, L/L, Westmoreland HS
The 5 foot 10, 157-pound prospect has average build, Had a 74 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran a 4.43 home to first base time, hit from a wide setup with a leg kick and short stride, has an arm bar load creating some length to swing, average bat speed, line drive type hitter with middle to opposite field approach. Position Velocity from the outfield was 78 mph, had good footwork, worked around the ball and played through it well with athletic actions, quick defensive instincts.

Hayden Settle, 2015, OF, L/R, Knoxville Central HS
The 5 foot 10, 145-pound prospect has an average frame with room to add strength, shows good athleticism, had a 80 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran a 4.48 home to first base time, had an athletic, slightly closed setup, short stride, minimal load, average bat speed, level path, some stiffness in lower half, slap type hitter. Position velocity from the outfield was 70 mph, had average hands, long exchange, fluid footwork, needs to improve on arm strength.

Garret Hamilton, 2018, OF, R/R, Knoxville Central HS
The 5 foot 8, 135-pound prospect, smaller/lanky frame that will continue to develop, average athleticism, had a 75 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran a 5.20 home to first base time, hits from slightly open stance and strides open without squaring front side, had average bat speed, good balance and approach, line drive type hitter, level path. Position Velocity was 75 mph from the outfield, had fluid footwork, clean exchange and average hands.

Matthew Stubblefield, 2018, OF,R/R, Bearden HS
The 5 foot 11, 155-pound prospect showed has a lanky build and will continue to fill in his frame and get stronger, average athleticism, had an exit velocity  of 74 mph off the tee, ran a 4.9 home to first base time, had a balances setup at the plate, smooth back load, short stride, average balance and bat speed, fair approach, opposite field type hitter, offensive game will benefit with added strength. Position velocity from the outfield was 75 mph, arm is loose and should continue to develop arm strength, showed average footwork and a clean exchange.

Ty Carter, 2019, OF, L/L, Christian Academy Knoxville
The 5 foot 11 ,130-pound prospect is a young prospect with a lanky frame that will fill out moving forward, had a 64 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran a 4.90 home to first base time, hit from  a closed setup, tope tap with no stride, average bat speed, significant pre-pitch movement , is a line drive type hitter, offensive game will continue to evolve with strength gains.  Position Velocity was 70 mph from the outfield, had good footwork and a clean exchange with natural instincts, plays through the ball wel
