East Tennesse College Prospect Showcase: Position Player Analysis

PBR Tennessee's first event in East Tennessee took place at Roane State Community College on September 21.  The following is analysis of the position players.  This is position player analysis only.  Analysis of pitchers who participated in the event will take place in a subsequent article.

Ross Ledford, 1B, R/R, Grace Christian Academy, 2016
6-foot-2, 190 pound prospect posted a 7.51 60-yard dash time and 81 mph tee exit velocity. Big, strong body type, throws from the over the top arm slot with long action and accuracy, feet are a little heavy, but moves well, arm has some carry with 74 mph position velocity, hits from a spread stance with arm bar, generates adequate bat speed with 81 mph tee exit velocity, good carry when he squares the ball.

Hayden Coffman, C, R/R, Grace Christian Academy, 2016
5-foot-9, 185 pound prospect posted a 7.69 60-yard dash time and 74 mph tee exit velocity. Compact body with strong legs, high-3/4 arm slot with med arm action, 67 mph position velocity and 2.26-2.39 pop time, shows some accuracy, adequate footwork, clean exchange, hits from a balanced, slight crouch, smooth load, short stride, line drive approach. 

Jackson Greer, C, R/R, Knoxville Central HS, 2016
6-foot-3, 190 pound prospect posted a 7.54 60-yard dash and 83 mph tee exit velocity. Recorded a showcase best 1.97-2.02 pop times. Good set up with quick, clean transfer and quick release from the high-3/4 arm slot and short arm action with 77 mph position velocity. Also shows lateral range. Squared the ball well in bp. Balanced, spread stance, slight leg kick, good lower half rotation, level swing, good extension and follow through. Shows line drive ability with consistent power potential with 83 tee exit velocity. Should continue to fill out frame. Interesting prospect to follow with size and projectable upside. 

Tyler Warmath, C, R/R, Mt. Juliet HS, 2015
6-foot-1, 150 pound prospect posted a 7.02 60-yard dash and 82 mph tee exit velocity. Shows some projectable skills behind the plate, short arm action, high-3/4 arm slot, quick, clean exchange, accurate, 2.10-2.22 pop time, soft hands, hits from a slightly open stance, leg kick, uses hands, occasionally gets upper half over lower half, good bat speed with 82 mph tee exit velocity, level line drive swing with occasional uphill tendency, sprayed the ball to all fields during bp, fluid rhythm.  

Jordan Day, OF, R/R, Rhea Co. HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 150-pound prospect posted a showcase best 6.93 60-yard dash and 75 mph tee exit velocity. Speedy and athletic with some unrefined baseball skills. Could be an interesting project for someone. Medium arm action, over the top arm slot, 80 mph position velocity, accurate with carry, hits from crouch, hands tend to drop causing arm bar, shows line drive ability.

Trey Batt, RHP/OF, R/R, Fairfield (OH), 2016
5-foot-11, 180 pound prospect posted a 7.22 60-yard dash and 74 mph tee exit velocity. Medium arm action, over the top arm slot, posted an 80 mph position velocity with accuracy, plays through the ball, good footwork, quick, clean exchange, slight open hitting stance, slight crouch, smooth load with toe tap, tendency to bring bat out of the zone early, however  squared several balls well during bp, shows line drive ability with a gap to gap approach with a 74 mph tee exit velocity.

James Mathews, OF/2B/MIF, S/R, Roane Co. HS, 2016
5-foot-9, 140 pound prospect posted a 6.96 60-yard dash and 77 mph tee exit velocity. medium arm action, over the top arm slot, 81 mph position velocity, accurate with on line carry, tends to play back on the ball, still developing, switch hitter with a balanced set up, 77 tee exit velocity, gap to gap approach from the right side, line drive/slap approach from the left side.  

Benjamin Matthews, OF, R/R, Fairfield HS (OH), 2016
5-foot-9, 150 pounds prospect posted a 7.09 60-yard dash and 77 mph tee exit velocity. Compact frame, long arm action, over the top arm slot, 74 mph position velocity, some accuracy, hits from crouch with weight on back side, short stride, arm bar, uphill path tendency, shows line drive ability when he squares the ball.  

Bryce Woody, OF, R/R, Roane Co. HS, 2017
5-foot-7, 140 pound prospect posted a 7.07 60-yard dash and 71 mph tee exit velocity. Younger prospect still developing, medium arm action, high-3/4 arm slot, posted 79 position velocity, plays through the ball, good footwork, clean exchange, on line carry, accurate throws. Hits from a balanced set up, long stride, drops hands, arm bar, uphill swing path, showed line drive ability during bp, needs to continue to mature and improve.
