Hendersonville vs Beech - 3/11

Matt Cohick
Area Scout

On Wednesday night we headed out to “Shackle Island” home to Beech High School as they took on cross-town rival Hendersonville for their 2nd district stint to start out the year. The stage was set for both pitchers on this night. Beech with uncommitted 2021 RHP Zach McWilliams on one side, and uncommitted 2020 RHP Caid Sanders on the other for the Commandos. McWilliams in this one would come out on top however thanks to a 16-strikeout outing from the 2021 RHP to win 3-1.

Both pitchers provided strong starts. McWilliams was dominant all night long finishing with 7 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 16 K’s. Sitting 83-85 with normal effort all night long topping out at 86 several times. Quick and loose arm action plays up to what velocity is. His CB was 72-74 exhibiting hard spin, and swing and miss effect this evening. Projectable.

Caid Sanders battled all night working out of jams it felt every inning, and keeping his team in the game in some big moments. Fell just short with his stat line finishing with 5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R (2 ER), 4 BB, 6 K’s. Sanders was 82-84 topping out at 85. Showing an occasional cut on his FB more than usual when we have seen him before. CB was 68-70 showing late bite, with a SL 71-73 that showed a 3/4 tilt with a consistent late bite. That was his put-away pitch this evening.

Not much offense to report this evening as both teams combined for 6 hits on the night. 2021 SS Luke Fleming led off the game with a hard line drive out to left field. Continuing to show his ability to find barrell with his ability to stay back on the baseball.

Caden Cutrell C 2021 showing again his strength that we saw back at the Preseason All-State Showcase. Generating more use of his lower half he was able to generate a backside double off the top part of the wall nearly inches from being out.
