The Memphis Tigers participated in the WWBA Underclass Championship in Fort Myers, Florida that began last Thursday and finished the tournament with a 2-1-1 record.

The Tigers got off to a good start on Thursday with a convincing 9-1 win over the Scorpions 2018’s and followed that up on Friday with a 4-4 tie with the Evoshield Canes South 17U team.  That set up a pivotal contest on Saturday with the Texas Stix with the pool championship on the line.  In a pitcher’s duel, the Tigers gave up two unearned runs in the sixth to fall 2-0.  The Stix went on to win their first two playoff games and are playing in the Quarterfinals this morning, while the Tigers rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh in a 7-6 consolation game victory yesterday.

The following is a look at standout performers for the Tigers during the tournament.

Wyatt Bailey, RHP/OF, Hernando HS (MS), 2016
Bailey went 3-for-8 with a double and 3 RBIs during the tournament.  The 5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect also worked 1.1 innings on the mound, allowing one hit and no runs while racking up three strikeouts.

Austin Mayfield, LHP, Arlington HS, 2016
The 6-foot, 180-pound lefty allowed just two hits and one run in picking up the win on Thursday.  Mayfield’s fastball reportedly topped at 82 mph, and he struck out six over his five innings of work.

Ryan Rolison, LHP, University School of Jackson, 2016
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Mississippi commit allowed four hits and one earned run in a no-decision against the Evoshield Canes South.  Rolison’s fastball reportedly topped at 84 mph, and he struck out five in his five innings of work.

LaDarius Williams, 1B/LHP, Brighton HS, 2016
The 6-foot, 200-pound prospect stood out both offensively and on the mound.  The left-handed hitter went 6-for-11 with four RBIs and two stolen bases to lead the Tigers offense.  On the mound, Williams was the hard-luck losing pitcher in the 2-0 loss to the Texas Stix.  With his fastball reportedly topping at 82 mph, he worked 5.2 innings and allowed no earned runs on three hits while recording six strikeouts.

Bailey Wimberley, RHP/SS, First Assembly Christian, 2017
The 6-foot, 165-pound SS hit at a .556 clip for the tournament going 5-for-9 with 3 RBIs and a stolen base.
