Scouting notes from this game will be posted in the Tennessee Scout Blog later today.

Farragut, TN - Class of 2015 RHP and Vanderbilt signee, Patrick Raby, put on a clinic for the Farragut Admirals against District 4 rival, the Rebels of Maryville, as Farragut cruised to a 8-0 win at home yesterday. In front of several pro scouts, the hurler tossed a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and one walk in six innings of work. Raby used a three-pitch mix that included a devastating slider and knee-buckling curveball to go along with his fastball.

Raby’s lone walk was issued to lead-off hitter Dylan Shinsky in the top of the first. He retired the next 13 Rebels he faced before 1B Matt Young reached on an error in the top of the fifth. Raby then forced CF Drake Martin to ground into a double play, the first of two turned by the Admirals on the day.

Maryville RF Zack Pitt would lead off the sixth with a ground ball that made its way into shallow right field that gave the Rebels their lone hit of the afternoon. However, Pitt was quickly erased by a double play fielded by Raby and turned by SS and University of Tennessee commit Duncan Pence.

Pence's future teammate at Tennessee and LHP Alex Curl did not have as good of a day for Maryville. Curl struggled to find the zone with his fastball today. The lefty walked seven in 2.2 innings pitched. He struck out four and allowed five runs, all of which were earned. Curl will not be down for long though. He has tremendous upside with his ability to throw a solid breaking ball that kept Admiral hitters off balance at times and shows good velocity.

Farragut opened scoring today when C Nico Mascia led off the bottom of the second with a base-on-balls. He was removed for courtesy runner Danny Abbel and after a single and a sacrifice bunt that wasn't handled by Curl loaded the bases, Abbel scored on a wild pitch.

The big blow of the game came off the bat of DH Justen Freeman.

Curl walked 3B John Painter to lead off the bottom of the third. After a sacrifice fly by North Carolina signee Chase Fullington, Painter scampered home off the one-out SAC fly from Pence. Back-to-back-to-back walks to Mascia, 1B Jake Hagenow, and LF Carmelo Venero loaded the bases, and Freeman broke the game wide open for the Admirals with a bases clearing, three-run double.

Farragut would add three insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Admirals benefited from their 5-9 hitters in the lineup. In total, they reached base 14 times and scored six of the eight runs.
