Player Spotlight: Farragut 2016 SS Duncan Pence

As we continue to take a look at standout players from the State Championship games last week at MTSU, today’s spotlight is on Duncan Pence, starting SS for the AAA State Champion Farragut Admirals.

Duncan Pence, SS/RHP, Farragut HS, 2016

Pence is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound SS/RHP who possesses the frame and athleticism needed to play at the next level.  At the plate, he showed the tools to be a quality hitter. He has quick hands, lets the ball get deep in the zone and hits it on a line.  With room on his frame to continue to get stronger, Pence should have no problem developing consistent gap to gap power.

In the field Pence is a big, rangy shortstop with a plus arm who moves well up the middle.  He has the arm to make every play a shortstop needs to make and should continue to see improved hands and movement to the backhand side.

Pence, who was 3-for-4 with a RBI in the AAA State Championship Game, projects as a high-level prospect, and with two years remaining at the high school level, he has the time needed to make the strength and speed gains necessary.  It’s easy to see why he has been able to crack the lineup early in his career at perennial power Farragut HS.
