Player Spotlight: Kenwood HS 2016 SS Jojo Allen

It’s not always easy to find a player at the high school level that has a chance to be a true SS and to actually stay put at the position at the next level, but Jojo Allen showed that kind of ability at the Preseason All-State Showcase last weekend.  At 6-foot, 187-pounds, Allen immediately passes the eye test with his athletic frame, and he impressed both defensively and offensively at the event.

Allen began his day by running a 6.94 60-yard dash, but that was just the start of his performance.

During Defensive drills, Allen showed soft hands to go along with quick and natural instincts. He showed good arm strength and played through the ball well while displaying good lateral movement.  As for arm strength, his throws registered at 87 mph across the infield, showing he has plenty of arm to stay at SS beyond high school. Allen showed good overall athletic ability defensively and will be an interesting SS to watch for years to come.

Offensively, the right-handed hitter’s swing is easy and loose, and he showed good bat speed with an 88 mph exit velocity. He is currently a line drive type hitter with a gap-to-gap approach who has future power potential as he continues to get stronger.

Look for Allen to make a name for himself this spring for Kenwood HS
