The 2021 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. That excitement may be at an all-time high entering this high school season as the 2020 high school baseball season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season during an offseason unlike any other and as always, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at the TSSAA Spring Fling state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams.

We start diving into the Preseason Power 25 Rankings, highlighting some of the deepest clubs across the state. Although we could have done 40+ clubs with so many talented teams getting tuned up for the 2021 season, we can only rank 25 and this list will continue to change as the season plays out on the field.  There will be teams not on the list that will be battling for a state championship come late May, so take it for what it's worth, as no championships have ever been won on paper.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Outlook:

Since taking the reins in 2010, Head Coach Matt Buckner has lead the Admirals to eight state tournament appearances and four AAA state championships plus two runner up finishes.  They have a deep experienced group of seniors that helped guide the team to a 42-3 finish in 2019 and a state title. They lose ace Ryan Hagenow (Kentucky), but they return LHP/OF Hunter Merrick (ETSU), who pitched district games in 2020 and seems to thrive in big moments as a legit two-way prospect.  Jr. RHP/OF Jaxson Pease is a very capable mid 80s arm and feel for spin, shown all summer he can navigate lineups and pound the zone.   Sr. RHP Jake Wurms (Charleston Southern) seems to be the wildcard as he enters his first high school season as a pitcher, but has shown to be an upper 80s, low 90s talent as he looks to continue to develop his game on the mound after a solid summer circuit. Positionally, this is a deep dangerous lineup with very little letups for opposing pitchers. Sr. SS Angus Pence (Tennessee) will hit in the middle of the order and has shown to be an elite defender up the middle.  Sr. CINF/OF Tanner Kim (Kentucky) can really drive the ball and shows great consistency in his swing while playing with a high motor. Add in seniors C/1B Hudson Seigler (ETSU) and LHH OF Bryce Burkey (Cleveland St. CC) to round out the meat of the order with Merrick and UTL Parker Evans (Tusculum) setting the table. Highly touted freshmen SS Lukas Buckner and OF Brennon Seigler (Tennessee) will grow into their roles handling duties to help turn over the lineup, both have shown great promise and can already impact games.  They will have various bench guys that can step in and produce quality at bats and innings at any time.  Farragut will be the favorite to get back to Spring Fling and the potential to go back to back in AAA.

Best of luck this season!
