Carson Carroll, C, R/R, Independence HS, 2017

Carroll is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound catcher who performed well at the Fall Top Prospect Games Event and established himself as a young prospect to keep a close eye on over the next few years.

Carroll showed solid defensive skills behind the plate with his receiving and blocking ability.  During the position player workout of the event, Carroll showcased 75 mph arm strength on throws to second base with pop times that ranged from 2.03-2.13.  His footwork stayed online which resulted in consistent throws to the second base bag.

At the plate, Carroll hits from a slightly open stance and maintains good balance with a short stride.  He has a short, slightly uphill swing path that creates some lift and shows good extension through the zone.  Though he went 0-for-4 in game play, Carroll showed some power potential in his round of batting practice. Carroll registered a 71 mph exit velocity, a number that clearly wasn’t his best as he showed better bat speed than that during the event.  I would anticipate the exit velocity number to make a significant jump at the next event Carroll attends.
