TN All-Uncommitted Team (2020): Two-Ways

Colton Provey
Tennessee Scouting Director

As we approach the one month mark since the Tennessee high school season came to a halt, the PBR Staff decided to (hypothetically) assemble a team of the best uncommitted 2020 prospects from all across the state.  We created a squad of 25 seniors, broken down into 11 position players, 9 pitchers, and 5 two-way prospects. Today, we'll take a look at the five two-way prospects who will contribute at the plate and on the bump, then later this week we'll dive into the primary pitchers.

During these complex times, any uncommitted 2020 player looking to play collegiately, send info/video to Scouting Director Colton Provey.

Two-Ways

Elijah Williams OF/LHP Spring Hill Rank: 97
The 6-foot-1, 208-pound Williams is an absolute force on the diamond.  The lefty swinging outfielder has some power and smooth stroke with great bat speed. Lean, muscular frame who plays a sound corner OF with above average arm strength.  Physical presence in the batter’s box. On the bump, simplified things this offseason to make some strides, but mid 80s lefty arm with some upside.  A toolsy prospects who would be a big time add for teams needing lefty bat/raw pitcher prospect.

Kaleb Vaughn Rossview Rank: 111
The 5-foot-11, 150-pound RHH SS/RHP, Vaughn stood out during the pregame In/Out due to his instincts, soft hands, and smooth transitions. Traits to stay at SS or provide versatility around the infield. Bat continues to develop w/ above average bat speed and some pull side power.  Vaughn threw in relief, working two scoreless before running into trouble in the 9th. Worked out of some jams while navigating challenging lineup, steady composure.  His FB sat 83-85 (lot of 85s) with decent spin. Spun the CB well at 69-72, had some bite to it. Showed developing CH at 73-75. A nice late find with some two-way upside.

Gavin Marrero OF/LHP Mt. Juliet Rank: 124
5-foot-10, 150-pound LHP/OF is one on the top southpaws on the board. Beginning to mature in frame and add strength leading to significant increase in numbers over the last year.  Moves well defensively w/ loose arm to man all three OF positions.  Higher upside on the mound, showing FB at 79-83 this fall at 5 Star Scout Day and reports up to 86 leading up to the season. The steady lefty would be a solid late Juco addition.

Carter Davis SS/RHP Covington Rank: 128
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound athletic infielder shows a live body with ability to find barrels.  Medium, athletic frame w/ well-proportioned lean strength and solid projectability. Offensively, straight, slightly crouched stance with short hand rhythm, looking to pepper line drives up the middle with gap power potential.  This past summer at TBCA Showcase, showed 82-85 mph FB with good life and tight slider at 73-75 plus 74-76 mph changeup. Solid athlete with potential on both sides, but good spin mid 80s fastball and solid slider as best secondary.

Landon Slemp SS/RHP Science Hill Rank: 164
6-foot-1, 170-pound long, wiry build. Showed some athleticism up the middle and produced solid numbers on the bump.  Two-way prospect had solid TBCA showcase (1-4, 1 BB, 1 R | 1 IP, 2 K).  Was 80-83 on the mound w/ 68-70 mph breaking ball. A seasoned veteran for a traditional power, who has high upside frame with ability to contribute on both sides of the ball.
