TN Diamond Notes: Week 1

The Tennessee Diamond Notes a 2023 content piece that will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight those positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Tuesday of the high school season that are deserving to be highlighted based on their performance.

For now, let's take a look at those players from across the state highlighted in this week's Tennessee Diamond Notes.

Ashton Stamey C / OF / Sequoyah , TN / 2024 Was 4-11 (.363 average) on opening week, with a bunt single, a double, one stolen base and also had one homerun to go along with four RBI's for Sequoyah.

Harrison Pollina OF / RHP / Munford , TN / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 10 / POS: 3 Had a .388 average in week one of the high school spring season. Collected two doubles, six stolen bases and scored four runs hitting in the leadoff spot for Munford. On the mound, Pollina logged three innings of work, snagged one save and tallied seven total strikeouts.

Henry Ford SS / 3B / Baylor School, TN / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 11 / POS: 2 OverallRank: 411 / POS: 81 The UVA commit was 7-12 (.583 avg) at the dish to open up his senior campaign, had five doubles, one homerun and gathered six total RBI's for Baylor.

Tomas Valincius LHP / 1B / Baylor, TN / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 35 / POS: 3 Is another Virginia commit from Baylor who had a stellar first week of the season. Was 5-11 (.454 avg) at the plate, with a pair of homeruns, two doubles, six RBI's. Also got the win on the mound on opening day as he went five innings, allowing just one hit and collecting seven strikeouts.

Ben Lavelle 2B / RHP / Brighton, TN / 2023 Had a .667 average at the plate in the first week of the season with a .750 OBP. Scattered 10 total hits and had three RBI's.

Case Maxwell OF / Brighton, TN / 2024 Ended week one of the high school season with a .429 batting average and also tallied eight total RBI's for Brighton.

Brady Davis C / RHP / Clarksville, TN / 2024 Got his first varsity start on the mound for Clarksville this past week. The right hander tossed a one-hitter and just needed 75 pitches to do in route to their win. Davis also racked up 11 strikeouts in his outing.

Luke Perkins 3B / 1B / Brighton, TN / 2023 Perkins hit for .429 average in opening week, also had a pair of doubles and collected seven total RBI's.

Kyle Mabie 1B / OF / Evangelical Christian School, TN / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 64 / POS: 3 Mabie swung a hot bat to open up his sophomore season, went 9-13 at the plate (.692 average) with three singles, three doubles, one homerun, seven RBI's and also walked three times.

Mason Barnett 3B / RHP / Dobyns Bennett High School, TN / 2024 Barnett got the nod for Dobyns Bennett in week one, tossed seven innings allowed zero runs, collected seven strikeouts and allowed two walks.

Tanner Kilgore C / 1B / Dobyns Bennett, TN / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 210 / POS: 24 Kilgore was a tough out for opposing pitchers in week one. Hit 7-14 (.500 average) for Dobyns Bennett, had two doubles, three RBI's, one walk and one HBP. Also was successful behind the plate and was 3-3 on throwing out runners who attempted stolen bases.

Brody Winemiller 1B / 1B / Collierville, TN / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 101 / POS: 4 Another stellar performance in opening week comes from Collierville High School as Winemiller was 8-10 (.800 average) at the plate. He collected two doubles, one triple, and three home runs. Also tallied 11 RBI's and six runs scored. He also reached base via a walk and HBP.

Will Heppner OF / Maryville, TN / 2023 Is another top performer who swung the bat at a high level. Hit 11-15 (.733 average) for Maryville in four games. Scored six runs and was 2-2 on stolen base attempts. Heppner also jumped on the mound and tossed one scoreless inning.

Lukas Buckner SS / 3B / Farragut, TN / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 14 / POS: 4 OverallRank: 475 / POS: 99 Pleaded his case for POTW talk in week one as well. Hit 12-15 at the plate that led to a (.800 average) in four games for Farragut. Snagged nine singles, three doubles, scored six runs and brought home six RBI's. Reached base via HBP and did not find himself with a strikeout in opening week. Buckner had an on base percentage of (.812 OBP) and a 1.000 SLG.

Michael Delph RHP / RHP / Farragut, TN / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 76 / POS: 22 Was another Farragut stand out in week one. On the mound recorded a complete game of four innings pitched, collected nine strikeouts, allowed two walks and no hits during his start. At the plate, was 6-13 (.462 average) with four singles, a double, one triple, a pair of stolen bases, scored five runs and racked up eight total RBI's.

Jack Brafa RHP / 2B / South Gibson County, TN / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 38 / POS: 12 Brafa had a solid performance both at the plate and on the mound during the first week of the spring season. On the mound, tossed five innings for South Gibson County, picking up ten strikeouts allowing no walks and zero earned runs. At the plate, was 5-10 (.500 average), with three doubles, five RBI's and scored seven runs.

Brandon Gillespie SS / 2B / Station Camp, TN / 2024 Hit for a (.455 average), had three doubles, one triple, and two home runs. Totaling 10 hits throughout the week, eight RBI's and scoring eight runs for Station Camp.

Jacob Hunt LHP / Macon County, TN / 2024 Was dominant during his start for Macon County this past week. Tossed seven innings of work, allowing just one knock, one walk and gathered 10 total strikeouts in their win.

Daniel Parris RHP / SS / Knoxville Catholic, TN / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 12 / POS: 3 OverallRank: 456 / POS: 148 Poised for a strong spring season, the Tennessee signee hit for a (.462 average) for Knoxville Catholic to start the season. Had a double, three home runs, nine toal RBI's and scored seven runs.

Hudson Lutterman SS / RHP / Knoxville Catholic, TN / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 10 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 321 / POS: 69 Lutterman was another 2024 who had a really good week to start the 2023 spring season. Hitting (.571 average) for Knoxville Catholic, with one homerun, two doubles, six RBI's and scoring six runs. Also swiping four bags in the opening week of the season.

Bralyn Price 3B / RHP / Tennessee, TN / 2023 Got it done for Tennessee HS with the bat and on the bump this week. was 4-11 at the plate with a pair of doubles, one triple, two RBI's and also scoring twice. Worked in relief during two close contests, finished with 2.2 innings pitched, two strikeouts, one win and one save.

Cooper Thompson 3B / OF / Briarcrest, TN / 2023 Hit for a (.545 average) to start his spring season, had one homerun, three RBI's, five runs, reached on four walks and had one stolen base for Briarcrest.

Tyler Atkinson / Middle Tennessee Christian, TN / 2025 The sophomore hit for a (.583) average that resulted in 7-12 at the plate. Cashed in with three doubles, three RBI's, scoring six runs and finished with an OBP of .615.

Barkley Biggs 2B / Greenfield, TN / 2023 Biggs was 6-8 at the plate which brought him out with a (.750 average) in week one of the high school spring season. Out of the six hits he collected, two of them were doubles. He also came around to score five times for Greenfield.

Jake Hussain / Middle Tennessee Christian, TN / 2023 The senior hit for a (.538 average) to open up his season and was 7-13 at the plate. Hussain tallied three doubles, 10 total RBI's, scored four runs and had an OBP of .533.

Easton Sullivan C / Greenfield, TN / 2026 The freshman had a solid week to start the 2023 season, he was 4-5 at the plate which brought his average out to a clip of (.800) after week one. Recorded two doubles and scored four runs for Greenfield.

Tyler Yearwood SS / RHP / Houston, TN / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 108 / POS: 18 The right hander was 1-0 on the mound and gathered two saves for Houston in opening week of the 2023 spring season. At the plate collected four hits and grand slam.
