The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Bulldogs had a very unusual season as they struggled in district play, but they put together a remarkable run in the district tournament to reach the championship and advance to the Region Semifinals. Certainly isn’t a lack of talent on the roster as they nearly took down state participant Powell in that semifinals game and finished 25-17. Looking ahead, they return a deep senior class with an experienced lineup and solid defense up the middle. ‘24 C/RHP Brooks Wright (Tennessee) is the headliner as he’ll anchor the defense and serve as the ace on the mound. Big, physical bat in the middle of the order and a lot of arm strength behind the plate. They’ll return an experienced infield as ‘23 INF Evan Goins and ‘23 INF Brady Frederick are coming off all-district years while ’23 INF Parker Coe returns as well. ‘24 OF Riley Mahan will be a junior to watch as he stood out at a PBR workout this fall. On the mound behind Wright, ‘23 RHP Braden Suggs expects to be the number two and ‘23 RHP/1B Aiden Tipton will be in district relief/weekend starter. They’ll have a deep crop of arms with varsity experience, but lack a dominant 1-2 combo at the top and seek more consistency from their veteran guys. Feeling is that the Bulldogs will take their postseason run into this season with a better showing during the district regular season. Farragut will certainly be the favorites, but per usual the rest of the district will be an absolute dog fight to determine who will advance deeper into the postseason.
