The 2022 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at the Spring Fling state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our preseason Top 10 in each TSSAA classification and the preseason Power 25 Rankings. 

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Our team will be providing boots on the ground coverage, scouting games and highlighting the Volunteer State's talent. This season we will be releasing players of the week, updating our classification rankings, and the Power 25. Team Outlook

Green Hill High School were the new kids on the block, fielding their first baseball team in 2021 after school construction was complete over the summer. It was a very young club with no seniors on the roster, so they got thrown into the fire of the very competitive 9-AAA district. They won their first game in program history, then struggled in the middle of the year, but ultimately won two games in the district tournament before falling out to Mt. Juliet. They're back in year two with an entire roster that got varsity time and another offseason to develop. Although they lost an upper 80s arm in Brett Dowling (2022; Uncommitted) to Tommy John surgery, they'll have some key pieces up the middle and returning on the mound. '23 SS Christian Taylor (Air Force) starred in the Future Games this summer, and he will anchor the defense after providing an All-District effort last season. '23 C Adam Partin is back behind the dish as he has shown to be a reliable backstop and continuing to improve offensively. '23 Tate Riley handled 2B duties last season, and the Hawks will have '24s Drew Austin and Davis Fox as viable infield options who will see time. On the mound, '24 LHP Micah Summar was an all-district performer as a freshman, throwing multiple pitches for strikes and maintains composure. '22 RHP Jackson Zoccola will be the veteran mound presence, who attacks the zone with tempo and gamer mentality. Couple other names to watch: '23 RHP/CINF Carter Lee, '24 RHP/UTL Griggs Chandler, and '24 RHP Grant Leyk. They'll all contribute on the mound for this young staff plus Lee and Chandler will be key in some versatility roles. 

In year two, Green Hill will be moving up to 4A in a much more compact district with familiar faces. Former 9-AAA clubs: Mt. Juliet, Wilson Central, and Lebanon will be making the 4A transition, and the new face will be Cookeville joining this "Nashville suburb" alignment. Both Cookeville and Mt. Juliet reached region semifinals last season, both falling to state tourney teams (and Lebanon finished 3rd at the district tourney), so this will be a highly competitive district to follow. With a season under their belt, the Hawks will look to find consistent offense and overcome their youth in 2022 to hang around and make a push in postseason play.
