The 2021 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. That excitement may be at an all-time high entering this high school season as the 2020 high school baseball season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season during an offseason unlike any other and as always, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at the TSSAA Spring Fling state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, prospect watchlists, and Tennessee Power Rankings

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Classification: TSSAA 1A-District 3

Positional Starters Returning: 3

Team Strengths: Young, but talented group that have really worked hard over the offseason and displayed great leadership.

Team Weaknesses: Youthful, inexperienced bunch with less overall athleticism as guys fill out their frames.

Top Returning Players:

2021 RHP/2B Andrew McPeters

2021 OF Ian Elrod

2022 C Samuel McCarthy

Outlook:

50 miles west of Knoxville is Wartburg, TN, home of the bulldogs. Wartburg Central's 2020 season barely got off the ground playing two games, a year after finishing 19-14 with a sub-state appearance falling to eventual champion Greenback.  With only a handful of returning contributors, Bulldogs will lean on seniors Andrew McPeters and Ian Elrod as junior backstop Samuel McCarthy will anchor the young pitching staff.  McPeters (RHP/2B) will be a consistent contributor on the mound and spend time at second base.  The speedy Elrod will serve as the starting CF and set the table at the top of the lineup.  McCarthy has a big arm and the potential to blossom into a prospect with a good Spring.  The Bulldogs finished in the middle of the pack in '19 before sweeping the district tournament, and it should be another competitive year with Harriman and Rockwood being the biggest challengers.

Best of luck this season!
