The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Chiefs put together a very solid season as they fell in the district tournament to finish the year 19-12. This season, they’ll return a good chunk of their lineup, which put up 162 runs and 31 home runs last Spring, plus the conference hitter of the year. ‘23 OF Brady Leroy (Roane St) will be the focal point of the offense after that all-state season last year. ‘23 SS/RHP Aidan Webb and ‘23 2B/RHP Will Price pair up the middle and will both throw significant innings this Spring. ‘24 C Cole Putnal is back behind the plate and turned in an all-district honorable mention last year. ‘24 RHP Keaton Lawson figures to be the number one arm after throwing in nine games last Spring. ‘24 RHP/OF Jacob Brooks figures to contribute as a two-way and play a key role. Following those guys, will be a large group of sophomores that can be in the mix such as, ‘25 INF Parker Travis, ‘25 OF/RHP Manning Brooks, ‘25 C/RHP Gavin Housewright, ‘25 INF Clay Waggoner, ‘25 INF/RHP Gage Adkins, and ‘25 C/OF Mason Emery (California transfer). The Chiefs will battle with Greeneville and Grainger in district, so expect to see a dog fight in the district tourney for a chance to advance to the Region Semifinals.
