The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Yellow Jackets were excellent last year as they swept through the district and made a run to the state tournament. It was their first state tourney appearance since 2009 and they won their opening game, but dropped the next two to finish 28-12. They’ll return an experienced roster with state tournament appearance last year and sub state showing in 2021. ‘23 RHP/SS Cole Hines is a two-time district player of the year and returns to anchor the middle and lead the pitching staff. ‘25 C/CINF Luke Treece turned in another all-district season and will be a huge asset behind the dish again. ‘23 LHP/1B Levi Brasil was district offensive player of the year and is a power lefty bat in the lineup while throwing significant innings on the mound. ‘25 RHP/OF Levi Heidel turned in a great season as a freshman and will serve as the no. 2 arm and play CF. Coalfield will lean on these four players to put together another strong run as they don’t have a ton of position depth. The Yellow Jackets will be a heavy favorite in the district as they’ve had a dominant run and their biggest competition will be Oneida. Coalfield is on a mission to capture another district title and make another deep postseason run in 2023.
