The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Red Raiders were a part of the slobber knocker in district six, but ultimately they came out on top winning the district tournament. They advanced to the Region Semifinals, but lost to Bradley Central to finish the year 16-17. They’ll return experience and depth on the mound and in the lineup, which should line them up as the favorite in the district. ‘23 RHP/OF Aiden Robertson (Walters St CC) and ‘23 RHP/INF Jacob Holder return to form a very stout 1-2 punch on the mound. The pair threw just over 100 innings last year and logged 151 strikeouts while also contributing in the lineup.  ‘23 RHP Charlie Pierce is returning from Tommy John and ‘24 LHP Timothy Henderson expects to throw significant innings this Spring behind the duo. The headliner offensively is ‘25 SS/RHP Cole Pippenger (Mississippi State), who put together a great freshman season and will anchor the defense. ‘23 C/CINF Caleb Moran (Motlow St CC) and ‘23 1B/OF Nolan Jernigan are two big boppers in the middle of the order, who can slug and drive in runs. ‘25 OF Colter Neel could help shore up the outfield and give the lineup some depth. ‘26 UTL Austin Gipson is a toolsy freshman, who will be one to keep an eye on this Spring. The Red Raiders are in a position to take control of the district and have aspirations to push deeper into the postseason behind this upperclassmen group.
