The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Admirals had a tough stretch in late April, which put them in a tough spot during the district tournament. However, they battled out of the losers bracket to reach the championship, but they came up short to finish the season 20-15. They’ll return an experienced group with sound leadership and team chemistry, but will have to replace the ace from last Spring. ‘23 RHP/3B Drew Whalen (Western Kentucky) was district MVP last year and figures to slot as the one while playing a key role in the lineup. ‘23 SS/RHP Caleb Anderson (Xavier) will be the top lefty bat and anchor the middle infield while providing quality mound depth. ‘23 C Carson Cochran (Carson Newman) and ‘23 OF Alex Eisenbeck (Roane St CC) were both first team all district and play key roles in the middle of the defense. As Whalen slides up in the rotation, they Ads will have a lot of veteran depth on the mound with ‘24 RHP/CINF Trevor Ferris, ‘23 RHP/OF Jackson Knotts, ‘24 RHP Logan Johnson, and ‘23 RHP Braden Woods (LeTourneau). We’ve seen Ferris and Johnson in mid 80s w/ upper 80s potential and Knotts was second team all district last year. ‘24 LHP Jackson Lange and ‘24 LHP Sam Hilty got some varsity time last year and will give some southpaw options in the mix. ‘25 UTL Carson Hoard and ‘25 INF Cory Hoard figures to slot in the middle infield spots and can provide some depth after getting time as freshmen. ‘24 OF Tristan Vallone and ‘24 UTL Jack Alder are a pair of lefty bats that could contribute in some key spots. A handful of underclassmen to keep an eye on are ‘25 INF/RHP Owen Binkley, ‘25 OF Jaylen Spring, ‘25 LHP/1B Barrett Smith, and ‘26 C/UTL Elijah Crenshaw. The Admirals expect to be at the top of district 11 and have the pitching depth to push deep into the postseason.
