The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Green Wave turned in a good season in 2022 as they went 23-13 and were right in the thick of district 10. They’ll return a solid core of upperclassmen for this season and should be sound defensively. ‘23 C Mitch Victor is a defensively sound backstop to handle the pitching staff and a lefty bat in the lineup. ‘23 RHP/2B Jake Thompson is back in the ace role and will man second base to go along with his lefty bat. ‘23 LHP Carter Whitefield (Chattanooga St) is a towering frame, who will slot behind Thompson in the rotation. ‘23 1B/OF Hunter Oakes will be a key bat in the middle of the lineup after having a strong Junior year. ‘23 SS/RHP Garrett Bruce will pair with Thompson up the middle and throw significant innings on the mound. ‘24 RHP Amarius Dunn has been coming along nicely and can serve as district relief or weekend starter. ‘24 3B/RHP Abe Goolsby transferred in from Cookeville with a chance to man the hot corner and provide some depth in the lineup. The Green Wave will have their hands full in district ten as Hendersonville is coming off a state tourney appearance while Station Camp and Beech will have competitive squads in the mix. Good chance we’ll see similar standings as last year with these four teams log jammed at the top with two advancing to region play. Gallatin will need to have sound pitching and defense while staying healthy to be in the fold.
