The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Lions turned in a remarkable season as they swept through the district and middle region en route to a state final four. In the Boro, they knocked off Northpoint Christian, but dropped a double header to finish their season 37-7. They lost four key bats in the lineup and two key arms, but they’ll return some key positions and reload on mound talent. ‘23 OF Jordan Carter is the top uncommitted senior on the board and has been a staple towards the top of the lineup with a blend of power/speed. ‘23 3B Cade Fuller (Freed-Hardeman) has a breakout season at the plate and is a high level defender at the corner spot. ‘23 SS/RHP Trace Phillips has a sure glove up the middle and will bump up into the number one spot on the mound. This trio have been long time starters and can pick up extra base hits in bunches against any opposing arm. The biggest returnee is ‘24 RHP Hudson Barton (Vanderbilt), who missed last season due to Tommy John surgery, and figures to play a key role on the mound as he gets back up to speed. ‘23 Silas Jones (UT-Martin) has served as a swingman role and expects to be featured more as a starter this season. ‘25 OF/C Nolan Maloney has top end speed in the outfield and provides a switch hitting bat in the lineup. ‘24 C Owen Brewer is back behind the plate and looks to take another step after showing some raw arm strength. The biggest addition will be ‘26 LHP/OF Jameson Napper, who posted a big fall and is a highly touted freshmen garnering power 5 looks this Spring. ‘23 RHP/OF David Hamilton (Jax State) and ‘23 INF Ben Caldwell (Queens Univ.) are a pair of senior commits who could play a bigger role as well. GCA is the favorite in district three and the biggest challenger to Goodpasture in the middle region. This is a competitive bunch that has a lot of varsity experience and Coach Brad Myers has the roster potential to make another run to the Boro.
