The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

Team Outlook:

Justin Ridenour and the Greenback Cherokees are coming off a solid season in 2022 where they finished up with a (19-14) overall record and a sub state appearance in the Class A. The Cherokees are primed for a successful 2023 campaign as they return nine positional players and eight arms to the pitching staff.

Some top returning players for Greenback in the upcoming high school spring season include 2023 C/UTL Tyler Frazier, 2023 P/OF Brady Collins, 2023 UTL Lane Cook, 2024 RHP/INF Caden Lawson who has been District pItcher of the Year the last two seasons, 2024 INF/RHP Brady Allison, 2024 P/OF Kooper Williams who is an All-State and All-Region player to go along with his District Player of the Year honors last season, and 2025 UTL Noah Graves.

The Cherokees will rely heavily on their depth in the lineup, versatility, the deep parts of their pitching staff and overall team speed in the 2023 season.

As the Cherokees made a run to sub state last season, look for them to be a competitive squad that will be right back in the middle of things again in the upcoming 2023 spring season.
