The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Greene Devils captured the 2A state title in 2018 then followed with a sub state appearance then a pair of region semifinals. Last year was streaky as they got off to a slow start but played better down the stretch capturing the district tourney title and finished 18-19. They’ll return a stable of arms including district tourney MVP ‘23 LHP/OF Parker Shipley. THe long, lanky southpaw logged 54 innings of work and struck out 72 batters while also hitting .306. Behind Shipley is ‘24 RHP/SS Colton Richards, who threw a lot of meaningful innings last year, setting it up for a stout 1-2 punch. ‘25 UTL/RHP Carson Quillen can do a little of everything, but is definitely an impact player with thump in the middle of the order and pitching depth. ‘23 RHP Caden Fillers is another veteran arm that will give this group plenty of options late in the season. ‘25 UTL/RHP Kobe Mundy and ‘26 LHP/OF Will Harmon will be a couple of underclassmen to keep an eye on this Spring. The Greene Devils will look to battle it out with Grainger for the district title, but given the mound depth this group is looking to get things back on track for a deeper postseason push.
