The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Bulldogs turned in a historic season as they made a run to sub-state and finished the year 24-13, which was a program best in wins. They’ll return an athletic group with some experience, but will have to plug n’ play some new faces. The Bulldogs will lean on a quartet of upperclassmen to lead them as their younger players get up to speed. ‘24 UTL/RHP Chance Point is a dynamic athlete, who can play all over the field and apply pressure on the basepaths, while providing depth on the mound. ‘23 SS/RHP Joshua Whitson expects to be the ace and anchor the defense up the middle. ‘24 OF/LHP Brody Hicks will be the leader in the outfield and another key arm from the left side. ‘23 UTL/RHP Jonathan Greenwell will be another versatile two-way player that the Bulldogs will lean on. The district will be competitive per usual University High-JC has been a consistent state participant and North Greene will be a tough bunch as well. There will be only two programs to advance out of the district, so it should be a battle with Hampton in the thick of it.
