The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

Team Strengths: Experienced bats in the lineup, solid defensively. Heavy underclass potential.

Team Outlook:

The Eagles are coming off (14-16-1) season a year ago but return a core group of underclassmen who look to make an impact in their lineup in the upcoming 2023 season. Overall the Eagles return seven positional starters and six arms on the mound in 2023. The Eagles will depend heavily on '23 RHP JT Favara, who was an All-Region player in 2022. Favara will look to throw a heavy amount of critical innings for Jackson Christian this spring, the senior pitches in the low-80's and shows the ability to locate three pitches for strikes as well. Another upperclassmen that the Eagles will go to this spring will be '23 C Wyatt Jones, Jones caught a total of 176 innings for the Eagles in 2022 and will look to do the same this season. '24 1B/RHP Carson Holt led the Eagles in batting average last season (.377) with eight doubles and is also low 80-s on the mound, missed the last month of the season last year due to injury but expect Holt to be in the heart of the order for Jackson Christian come March. A young arm that the Eagles will go to at times this spring is '25 RHP/SS Austin Kelley, who was a district starter last spring as a freshman, picked up a few quality wins last season and will look to do the same in 2023.

With a younger squad heading into the 2023 season, look for the Eagles to be a competitive squad in the D2-A West Region.
