The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Red Devils turned in a solid season in 2022 as they got off to a hot start before cooling off in April. They went into the district tournament and found their groove again as they took champion East Robertson to a final game, but advanced to region play for back to back appearances. Their run came to an end in region play as they dropped the semifinals to Gordonsville to finish the year with a 10-14 record. They return a solid group of senior leaders and will benefit from some plug n play underclassmen in the mix. ‘23 SS/RHP Taylor Head is coming off a district MVP season and will contribute on both sides as he’ll be the number one arm and anchor the defense. ‘23 1B Jacob Miller will hit in the meat of the order and they’ll lean on him to provide some power at the plate. ‘26 RHP/INF Adam Riley is a highly touted freshman arm that will plug in the rotation immediately and can help at the plate. ‘24 3B/RHP Zach Worsham returns to handle the hot corner and provide depth on the mound. Jo Byrns will have the frontend pitching to compete in district 8, but will need to develop more depth to make a lengthy run. It’s a very condensed district and it seems to be a three team race for two spots with East Robertson as the favorite.
