The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

Coming into the 2023 spring season off a successful (26-14) record and a state tournament appearance in 2022, the Fighting Irish and skipper Caleb Moore look to make another run yet again this season. Knoxville Catholic will welcome back five positional starters to their starting lineup to go along with five arms on the mound, as expected with a handful of college commits and signees on the roster, expect for the Fighting Irish to show depth on the mound as well as strong defensively in the middle of the field. Led by '23 MIF and Tennessee signee Daniel Parris, Parris is as good as they come on the mound, fastball plays in the upper-80's and has even reached 90 mph at times. He can also hit for power, made an appearance at the Tennessee Preseason All-State event in February and posted one of the top exit velocities from the event at 101.1 mph. Knoxville Catholic will rely on '23 LHP/OF Ian Hubbard, '23 OF Miller Spence (Milligan College), '24 RHP/MIF Hudson Lutterman (Virginia Tech), and '24 C/3B Mason Fields to play as leaders in the role as upperclassmen this spring. The Fighting Irish also look to a pair of underclassmen who will have to step up and take on key appearances at times this spring, including '25 OF/LHP Cooper Williamson and '25 1B/LHP Hutson Oakes.

With a solid core of upperclassmen who has experience and recent success, expect the 2023 season to be another well rounded year for the Fighting Irish.
