The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Bobcats played a very tough schedule last year and finished 10-19 while getting knocked out in the district tournament. However, you could see some flashes as they finished in the middle of the pack, lead by state tourney participant Powell. This year they hope to take the next step in year two of Head Coach Brandon Roberts. ‘24 SS/RHP Andrew Hill will be the focal point as he’ll anchor the defense up the middle and be a key contributor on the mound as well. Long, lanky frame and lots of two-way upside with looks of being a big impact player within the district. ‘24 RHP/3B Miles Johnson looks to fill the ace role and handle the left side of the infield with Hill. ‘23 OF Tre Lyons and ‘23 C Jackson Bowser both return and will be veteran presence. ‘26 SS Nick Riordan has gotten high praises and should slot up the middle plus a quality lefty bat in the lineup. Potential to see a lot of young faces contributing such as: ‘24 RHP Sammy Myers, ‘25 LHP/1B Cole Wessel, ‘26 RHP Waylon Perry, and ‘26 3B Dylan Boswer. Knox Central has a solid foundation of infielders, but will need to see pitching depth take strides throughout the year. It will be interesting to see how the season unfolds, but the Bobcats have plenty of upside talent to check out this Spring.
